Yuma High School will hold its commencement for the Class of 2017 on Sunday in The Pit.

A total of 46 seniors will walk across the stage to receive their diplomas in a ceremony that begins at 1 p.m. The doors will open at 12 noon. Handicap parking will be available in the west parking lot, for those who need assistance getting into the building, and would like to be seated on the gym floor.

Graduating Cum Laude (with a grade point average of 4.0 or above for eight consecutive semesters) will be Eli Goeglein,

Rebecca Chapman, Tara Hickman, Brittany Ross, Connor Morton, Libby O’Neall, Kayla Arvizo and Daniela Salazar Espinosa.

Graduating with High Distinction (a grade point average of 3.8 and above) will be Weston Walter, Pierce Fisher, Kyli Blach, Tristan Earl, and Alex Schuetz.

Graduating with honors (grade point average of 3.5 to 3.79) will be Shae Mekelburg, Isela Trejo and Kimberly Saucedo. (See inside this edition for pictures and a full list of all the graduating seniors.)

Senior Class President Blaine Cooper will provide the welcome, and Goeglein is the Cum Laude speaker. (There is no guest speaker this year.) The YHS band and the choir will perform during the commencement.

Lone Star’s Class of 2017 will hold its commencement Saturday, May 20, at 2 p.m. in the gymnasium.

A total of four seniors will be receiving their diplomas: Jessica Bassett, Zach Hamar, Austin Kuntz and Daydra Parker.

Lone Star graduate, and longtime teacher and administrator, Mike Harty will be the guest speaker.
