Lloyd Walter Anderson 1926-2018
Lloyd Walter Anderson was born on November 14, 1926, at home in Cope, Colorado to Emanuel and Verna Olson Anderson. Lloyd spent his early childhood in and around Joes and Cope. His family moved to Otis, Colorado, when he was a junior in high school. He graduated from Otis High School in 1944 and enlisted in the United States Navy. Lloyd served during World War II in the Pacific theatre and spent time on Kwajalein Island. He was honorably discharged in July 1946 as a Ship’s cook third class.
Lloyd married Rozetta Anderson on August 21, 1949. To this union, six children were born, Stephen, an infant son who died at birth, Mike, Patty, Sandy, Pam and Don. Lloyd and Rozetta were life-long members of the Otis community and raised their family there. In 2013, Lloyd and Rozetta moved to Sterling, Colorado. Lloyd was baptized and confirmed as an adult at St. Paul Lutheran Church. He served many years on the church council and held all offices at one time or another.
Lloyd served as the US Postmaster in Otis from 1957 to 1973. In 1973, Lloyd became a rural mail carrier in Otis, a role he performed from 1973 until his retirement in 1990. Lloyd was very active in his community and through his many years of service he fulfilled his love of travel and seeing the USA. Lloyd served on the board of directors of Y-W Electric Association for 25 years; he was a Charter member of the Otis Lions Club and remained an active member until the Club disbanded. He also served on the Otis School Board for 3 four-year terms and served the remaining two years of the term of a succeeding member. In addition, Lloyd served for many years on the Otis Cemetery Board; the Otis Town Council; and the board of the Homestead Apartments. Lloyd was the inaugural president of the Northeast BOCES — thanks, in part, to his brother-in-law, Arthur M. Guida, who nominated him at the initial planning meeting which Lloyd was unable to attend.
Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents, his in-laws, his infant son, Stephen, his granddaughter, Heidi Jo Clough, and his wife Rozetta. Left to mourn Lloyd’s passing are his adult children: Michael Anderson, Debra; Patricia Anderson Clough, Craig; Sandra Anderson Ohlson, Kevin; Pamela Anderson Odom, Ed; and Donald Anderson, Julie; his grandchildren: Kay Ellen Anderson Metzler, Aaron; Holly Clough Largent, Kyle; Matthew Ohlson; Andrew Ohlson, Bobbi Lee; Kali Anderson Hines, Logan; Kirstin Anderson-Raguindin, Ryan; and his great-grandchildren: Makenna Metzler; Mason Metzler; Emma Largent; RJ Largent, and Archie Hines.
Lloyd’s family would like to thank those that helped bring joy and comfort to his life after the death of his beloved wife, Rozetta: the congregation at Peace Lutheran Church in Sterling; the staff and residents at Harmony House; his home health nurse, Jennifer; the staff and employees of the Sterling Hospital; and especially his good friends, Jim and Wanda. Your kindness, warmth and caring will never be forgotten. A funeral service wqw held Monday, September 3, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Otis, CO. Interment followed at the Otis Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Otis Cemetery, or to Hospice of the Plains.
