Area teams will be competing for berths to the Class 1A State Tournament when they play in the 1A Region 2 Tournament this weekend at Brush High School.

There will be three boys and three girls games Friday at Brush, with the winners advancing to face the top three seeds Saturday for a shot at a state berth.

Arickaree/Woodlin, Otis and Stratton/Liberty all are in the boys regional. Sixth-seed Arickaree/Woodlin plays seventh-seed Elbert at 12:30 p.m. The winner will play top-seed Heritage Christian in the regional final, Saturday at 2:30 p.m.

Ninth-seed Stratton/Liberty plays fourth-seed Genoa-Hugo/Karval at 3:30 p.m., with the winner advancing to Saturday’s 11:30 a.m. regional final against third-seed Longmont Christian.

Fifth-seed Otis closed out Friday’s boys games at 6:30 p.m. when the Bulldogs take on eighth-seed Deer Trail. The winner plays second-seed Peetz in the regional final Saturday at 5:30 p.m.

Arickaree/Woodlin’s girls also advanced out of District 5 last weekend. The Indians are the fourth seed and will play ninth-seed Elbert at 11 a.m. Friday. The winner gets third-seed Heritage Christian in the regional final Saturday at 4 p.m.

Also in Region 2 are sixth-seed Idalia playing seventh-seed Genoa-Hugo/Karval at 2 p.m., with the winner playing top-seed Fleming at 1 p.m. Saturday, and fifth-seed Hi-Plains/Flagler playing eighth-seed Kiowa at 5 p.m. Friday, with the winner getting second-seed Briggsdale at 10 a.m. Saturday.

The 1A state tourney will be played at the University of Northern Colorado, March 8-10, with the championship games played at the Budweiser Events Center on March 10.
