Locals in rescheduled 1A track, Friday through Sunday
Several local athletes will be competing in the Class 1A Track and Field Championships, Friday through Sunday at Jeffco Stadium in Lakewood. (Everything has been moved back one day as the state meet was canceled today, May 18, due to the weather conditions. This article has been reflected to update that change.)
Otis has a state championship contender in Tate Goble in the pole vault. He is ranked No. 1 in 1A with a best height of 12-10. Fellow Bulldog Landston Schaffert is fourth in 1A with a best height of 11-4. They will compete Sunday at 8:30 a.m.
Killian Hisam and Mario Dracon will compete later in the day in the high jump, beginning at 1:30 p.m. Hisam enters state tied for fourth in 1A with a best jump of 6-0, while Dracon is 10th at 5-9.
Keylan Dracon actually gets things going for the Bulldogs Friday, May 19, as he competes in the shot put. He is ranked seventh in 1A at 41-4.5. The shot put begins at 4 p.m. Also, Peyton Uhrig is in the discus at 1:30 p.m. Saturday. He is sixth going into state with a best distance of 124-3. There are no Otis girls going to state.
Arickaree/Woodlin’s Marco Ramos helps lead that crew as he is ranked first in the discus at 131-11, which will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday. The graduated senior is second in the shot put with a best heave of 43-2.5, with that reset to 4 p.m. Friday.
Darian Wagner also is competing for the boys in the 200-meter dash. He is ninth with a best time of 23.74 seconds. The 200 final is 1:30 p.m. Sunday.
Haley Dietz leads the Arickaree/Woodlin girls She is in the high jump, long jump and triple jump. The girls high jump is 8:30 a.m. Saturday. Dietz is ranked 11th at 4-10. The triple jump is Saturday at 1:30 p.m. Dietz is ranked No. 1 with a best distance of 33-8.25. The 1A girls long jump is 8:30 a.m. Sunday. Dietz again is ranked No. 1 with a leap of 16-5.
Abbi Miller also is in the state meet in the 100-meter hurdles. The 1A girls final is reset for 9:37 a.m. Sunday. Miller is tied for eighth going into state with a best time of 17.93 seconds.
Liberty/Stratton is sending some athletes to state as well. Phillip Pickard is third in the triple jump at 41-10. That competition is Saturday at 8:30 a.m. He is seventh in the long jump at 20-0.5, and competes in that Friday at 4 p.m. Chase Flynn is ranked fourth in the discus with a best toss of 124-9. He is 15th in the shot put with a distance of 39-2. The shot put is Friday at 4 p.m., and the discus is Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
The Stratton/Liberty girls’ 4-by800 relay team of Sydnee Roth, Emily Idler, Savannah Rothbauer and Emma Mandal, is ranked eighth with a time of 11:25.81. They race at 2:35 p.m. Saturday.
