A total of three Yuma High School football players have been honored by the North Central Conference coaches.

Victor Mendoza

Victor Mendoza, wide receiver/defensive back — The junior was named to the All-North Central offense and defense, making the team as a wide receiver and defensive back. He led the Indians in receptions with 35, gaining a total of 531 yards, an average of 15.2 yards per catch, and six touchdowns. He also tied for the team lead in total tackles with 64, and grabbed three interceptions.

Dillon White, offensive line — The junior was named to the All-NCC team on the offensive line. White was a key cog in an offense that showed signs of hope for the

future with some encouraging efforts this season. The Yuma offense had a total of 2,034 yards in 2017, 1,006 rushing and 1,028 passing.

Edgar Bustillos, honorable mention — The senior closed out his high school career by receiving honorable mention from the NCC coaches. The honorable mentions were not position-specific. He rushed for a team-leading 383 yards and had two touchdowns, and 21 receptions for 257 yards and one

touchdown. Defensively, he was in on 56 total tackles.

The coaches selected Javier Zamora of Limon as Lineman of the Year. Jonah Hanson of Burlington is the All-State Game Selection. The All-State Coach Nominee is Levi Kramer of Wray, and Mick David the Assistant All-State Coach.

The NCC Coach of the Year is Glynn Higgs of Burlington.


3 Yuma players all-state in volleyball

The Yuma High School volleyball team is well represented on the Class 2A All-State selections, released last week on CHSAANow.com.

Kenedy Roth

Senior Kenedy Roth and junior Cody Robinson were named to the 2A First Team, and junior Chasey Blach to the Second Team. The Indians went 25-2 this season, reaching the state championship match for the fourth consecutive year.

Roth was among the state’s leaders in setting assists, finishing the season with 950. She served 94.8 percent with 28 aces, and was in

on 35 blocks and had 47 kills. She also recorded 257 digs.

Robinson was second on the team in kills with 356, an average of 4.3 per set. She was among the team leaders in serve receive, had 369 digs, was in 34 total blocks, and served 91.5 percent with a team-leading 42 aces.

Chasey Blach

Blach led the Indians in kills with 453, an average of 5.3 per set, was in on a team-leading 80 blocks, served 86.7 percent with 37 aces, and recorded 254 digs.

Joining Roth and Robinson on the First Team are Katie Kurz of Dayspring Christian, Taylor Maguire of Lyons, Jerraldawn Rector of Simla, Sarah Stevenlinck of Lyons and Shaelyn Watson of Hoehne. Joining Blach on the Second Team are Chloe Baker of Wiggins, Hally Herder of Denver Christian, Lacie Jones of Del Norte, Kassie Luce of Meeker, Elisabeth Porrey of Dawson, and Sydney Ritschard of West Grand.

Others from the LPAA receiving 2A honorable mention are Grace Dille of Holyoke, Tori Jordan of Wiggins, and Dawson Knode of Haxtun.

In Class 1A receiving honorable mention are Ruby Halcomb and Makenna Metzler of Otis.
