1A hoops report

The Otis High School boys basketball team is moving right up the standings.

The Bulldogs entered this week 6-2 overall, 2-0 in the YWKC, and No. 8 in the 1A CHSAA Seeding and Selection Index. They hosted Caliche this past Tuesday, host Briggsdale on Friday and are at Weldon Valley on Tuesday. All are non-league games.

Otis claimed a 68-39 home win over Haxtun earlier last week. Charlie Kendrick had 20 points, 10 assists and eight rebounds, Grady Bechtle 18 points, 14 rebounds and four assists, Austin Hornung 13 points and four rebounds, Cambric Klinzmann 12 points and four steals, Mitchell Stivers three points, and Jacob Perry two points.

The Bulldogs traveled to Idalia last Friday, racing out to a 21-9 lead on their way to a 54-41 win. Kendrick had 23 points and two rebounds, Stivers six points and four rebounds, Hornung six points and three steals, Grady Bechtle six points, 14 rebounds and five steals, Gracen Bechtle six points and four assists, Klinzmann three points and eight rebounds, Perry two points and two rebounds and Gavin Price two points.

Saturday’s home game against No. 6 Cheyenne Wells was canceled at the request of the Tigers.

ARICKAREE BOYS

The Arickaree boys basketball team has gone 2-2 since the start of 2025.

The Bison entered this week 6-3 overall, 1-0 in the YWKC, after splitting two games last week. They are No. 18 in the 1A CHSAA Seeding and Selection Index. They host Bethune on Friday, are at Denver Waldorf on Saturday, and host Lone Star on Tuesday.

Arickaree lost 68-53 at Peetz on January 15, getting outscored 22-6 in the third. Zarron Skubal had 14 points and eight rebounds, Austin Wright 11 points and six rebounds, Jake King 10 points, eight rebounds, five assists and six steals, Jorge Ramos seven points and six rebounds, and Daniel Goff two points.

The Bison rebounded for a 67-16 league win at home Friday over Hi-Plains. Skubal had 14 points and seven rebounds, King 13 points, six rebounds and four assists, Goff 11 points and three rebounds, Wright 10 points and two rebounds, Ramos six points, seven rebounds and six assists, Dillon Noletubby five points and three assists, Jack Coraor four points, and Zed Craig three points and two rebounds.

LONE STAR BOYS

Lone Star’s boys team is 3-4 heading into its home game against Idalia on Thursday of this week, followed by a game Friday at Weldon Valley, then a league game Tuesday at Arickaree.

The Longhorns lost their only game last week, 53-50, at home to Briggsdale on Friday. Grant Kuntz had 21 points, 11 rebounds, six assists and six steals, Jesus Hermosillo 16 points, five rebounds and four assists, Ian Pastor six points, eight rebounds and five steals, Owen Glenn five points, six rebounds and four steals, and Anderson Weathers two points.

Saturday’s game at Front Range Baptist was not played.

OTIS GIRLS

The Otis High School girls basketball team is trying to get back above .500.

The Bulldogs were 4-4 entering this past Tuesday’s game against Caliche. The host Briggsdale on Friday, and are at Weldon Valley on Tuesday.

Otis got a 45-36 win over Haxtun earlier last week. Aedyn Tribelhorn had 17 points, five rebounds and seven steals, Madelyn Willeke 14 points and seven rebounds, Lydia Willeke six points and five rebounds, Kensley Packer four points, Madison Reynolds four points and four assists.

The Bulldogs lost at home Friday to Idalia, 50-35. Tribelhorn had 16 points and seven assists, M. Willeke 12 points, eight rebounds and five steals, Reynolds four points and three steals, and Kensley Packer two points.

Saturday’s home game against Cheyenne Wells was canceled at the request of the Tigers.

LONE STAR GIRLS

Lone Star’s girls basketball team will have a winning record heading into its home game on Thursday against Idalia, followed by a road game at Weldon Valley on Friday, and a league game at Arickaree on Tuesday.

The Longhorns are 5-4 overall after losing 65-42 at home to Briggsdale last Friday. Peytyn Kuntz had 17 points and three steals, Jade Kuntz 10 points, five rebounds, four assists and three steals, Aimee Trejo nine points and 10 rebounds, Bryn Cook five points, and Paityn Forry one point and three assists and steals.

Saturday’s game at Front Range Baptist was not played.

ARICKAREE GIRLS

The Arickaree girls basketball team is 3-6 heading into this week.

The Bison host Bethune on Friday, travel to Denver Waldorf on Saturday, and host Lone Star on Tuesday.

They won 51-12 at Peetz on January 15. Ja’Niya Smith had 15 points, seven rebounds and six steals, Raeya Schrock 14 points, five rebounds, five assists and five steals, Paytin Villarreal six points and five steals, Janice Kalcevic six points, three rebounds and four steals, Clara Hermes five points, Gabby Hermes three points and three assists, and Gracie Monat two points, three rebounds and three steals.

Lone Star hosted Hi-Plains last Friday, losing 53-35. Smith had 21 points and five rebounds, Schrock six points and four rebounds, Kalcevic six points, Hermes two points, and Monat three rebounds.
