Lone Star’s girls basketball team will spend the coming weeks be zeroing in on a high seed for the Class 1A regional later this month.
The Longhorns are 9-3 overall, 4-0 in the YWKC League, heading into Friday’s non-league game at Deer Trail. They have a big game Tuesday at 1A top-ranked Briggsdale on Tuesday. Lone Star is No. 8 in the 1A Rating Percentage Index and No. 6 in the Top 10.
Lone Star picked up two league wins last week.
The Longhorns knocked off Otis, 59-19, earlier last week in a league game. Aleighcea Kuntz had 21 points, Alivia Weathers 13 points, seven rebounds and four assists, Lamya Kuntz nine points, five rebounds, four assists and five steals, Alison Davis eight points and three rebounds, Amanda Kubitz four points and five rebounds, Hailey Forry two points and two assists, and Ana Lockard two points and two rebounds.
Lone Star ran out to a 20-8 lead on their way 61-38 home win over Arickaree/Woodlin last Thursday. Weathers had 28 points, three rebounds, three assists and three steals, Aleighcea Kuntz 12 points, two rebounds and two steals, Davis 12 points and 10 rebounds, Lockard four points, L. Kuntz three points and six assists, and Forry two points.

The Arickaree/Woodlin girls basketball team is 7-7 overall and 2-2 in the YWKC League heading into their final league game later this week.
The Indian Mustangs are at Genoa-Hugo/Karval today, February 4, before hosting Otis for its final YWKC game on Friday.
The Indian Mustangs had a tough one at No. 8 Lone Star last Thursday, losing 61-38.
Joslyn King had 14 points and four rebounds, Cora Schrock 13 points and seven rebounds, Tori Arfsten four points and five rebounds, Wynter Van Ness four points, six rebounds, and three assists, Lilly Monat three points and 11 rebounds, and Raeya Schrock six rebounds.
The Indian Mustangs took on another Top 10 team on Friday, losing 64-33 at home to Idalia. Arickaree/Woodlin stats were not available.
Otis girls
The Otis High School girls basketball team can make a move in the YWKC League this week.
The Bulldogs 2-11 overall, 1-2 in the YWKC, as they host Arickaree/Woodlin on Friday before traveling to Hi-Plains on Saturday.
They dropped a pair of games to Top 10 teams last week.
They played at No. 8 Lone Star earlier last week, losing 59-19. No Otis stats were available.
The Bulldogs then hosted top-ranked Briggsdale last Friday, losing 70-37. Otis statistics were not available.
Lone Star boys
Lone Star’s boys basketball team has won three of its past four, improving to 4-9 overall and 2-2 in the YWKC League.
The Longhorns travel to a 1-9 Deer Trail team on Friday, then make the trip to a tough Briggsdale squad on Tuesday.
They hosted neighboring Otis earlier last week, dropping a 35-32 decision. Abraham Martinez had 14 points, seven rebounds and three steals, Grant Kuntz eight points, six rebounds and four steals, Wyatt Cochran six points, five rebounds and four steals, Dakoda Cox two points, seven rebounds, four assists and three steals, and Ethan Glenn two points and four steals.
Lone Star got back to winning on Thursday, claiming a 52-38 league win at home over Arickaree/Woodlin. Martinez had 23 points and seven rebounds, Cochran 14 points and 11 rebounds, Cox eight points, five assists and three rebounds, and Kuntz seven points and six rebounds.
Otis boys
Otis High School’s boys basketball team has a chance at a strong finish to YWKC League play, this week.
The Bulldogs are 6-6 overall and 2-1 in the league with YWKC games at Arickaree/Woodlin on Friday and home against Hi-Plains on Saturday.
They split two games last week. The Bulldogs pulled out a 35-32 win at rival Lone Star earlier last week. Team statistics were not available.
Otis then hosted an undefeated Briggsdale squad last Friday, taking a 78-43 loss. Otis statistics were not available.

Arickaree/Woodlin’s boys basketball team will be looking to get back above .500 this week.
The Indian Mustangs are 7-8 overall, 1-3 in the YWKC League, as they play a non-league game February 3 at Genoa-Hugo/Karval, then host Otis for a league game on Friday.
They lost 52-38 last Thursday in a league game at Lone Star. A/W statistics were not available. They then hosted Idalia on Friday, losing 59-42 as Idalia ran out to a 22-10 lead in the first quarter. A/W team details were not available.
