Otis High School’s baseball team is wrapping up the regular season this week at the friendly confines.
The Bulldogs host a tough Simla squad today, April 24, for a single game, then host a tough Flatirons Academy team in a makeup game Saturday at 11 a.m., followed by a single game with Stratton at 1 p.m.
Otis, 13-3, is No. 6 in the 1A Selection and Seeding Index. Flatirons is No. 5 and Simla No. 7. The district tournament begins Wednesday, April 30, featuring four of the top six in 1A, including No. 1 Haxtun, No. 2 Akron and No. 3 Merino.
The Bulldogs picked up a 19-1, 18-1 sweep at Wiley last Thursday.
They led 17-1 by the end of the third in the opener, pounding out 15 hits and benefitting from 10 Wiley errors.
Tayte Smith had a triple and a double among his three hits, with four RBI and two runs scored, Austin Hornung three hits with two RBI and three runs, Gavin Price two hits with a double, one RBI and four runs, Cambric Klinzmann two hits with a double, one RBI and one run, Milo Kendrick one hit and two RBI, Mitchell Stivers one hit, Raegan Torres one RBI, Emiliano Varela a double, two RBI and two runs, Paxton Davis one hit, two RBI and two runs, and JJ Ward a double, one RBI and three runs.
Price struck out eight, walked one and yielded two hits in three innings, and Varela had one strike out, two walks and gave up one earned run in one inning.
The second game featured Otis scoring 15 runs in the second in a game called after three innings.
Stivers had three hits with a triple, four RBI and three runs, Smith two triples, one RBI and two runs, Davis two hits, one RBI and one run, Hornung two hits, three RBI and two runs, Price one hit, one RBI and two runs, Klinzmann a double, one RBI and three runs, Varela one hit and two runs, Kendrick two runs, and Ward one run.
Hornung went two innings on the hill, striking out four and walking four. Davis threw one inning, striking out three and walking three.
Lone Star track
Lone Star’s track and field athletes competed in the Broncos Stampede last Saturday at Platte Valley in Kersey.
The boys scored 35.5 points to finish ninth in the team standings, and the girls finished eighth with 31.5 points.
Anderson Weathers won the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 16.18 seconds. He cleared 12-10 to win the pole vault. Weathers was third in the 300 hurdles in 44.9 seconds, and third in the high jump at 5-9. Jesus Hermosillo placed fifth in the pole vault at 7-4.
Katie Etl cleared 8-10 for second in the pole vault, Peytyn Kuntz was third at 7-10, and Bryn Cook fifth at the same height. Aimee Trejo put the shot 31-5 for fifth place. Kaylee Coin was seventh in the high jump at 4-5.
Kuntz was fifth in the 100 hurdles in 18.2 seconds. Paityn Forry was fifth in the 300 hurdles in 53 seconds.
Otis track
The Otis High School track and field teams competed in the Beetdigger Invitational last Saturday.
The boys scored 32 points to finish sixth in the team standings, and the girls were seventh with 34 points.
Cambric Klinzmann was second in the 200-meter dash in 24.93 seconds. Tayshaun Thomas took third in the 110-meter hurdles in 19.27 seconds. Jacob Perry was fifth in the discus at 115-5, and Klinzmann placed sixth in the long jump at 17-3.
The 4-by-200 relay team of Thomas, Blake Stivers, Austin Hornung and Klinzmann placed third in 1:43.65, and the 4-by-100 foursome of Emiliano Varela, Thomas, Hornung and Klinzmann was fourth in 49.68 seconds.
Aedyn Tribelhorn placed second in the 200 in 29.32 seconds, fifth in the 100 in 14.36 seconds, and sixth in the 400 in 1:06.72.
Kensley Packer placed second in the triple jump at 33-4, and third in the long jump at 15-0.25. Emily Williams whipped the discus 92-11 for fourth.
Arickaree track
Arickaree’s track and field athletes had a great run at the Beetdigger Invitational in Brush last Saturday.
The boys finished third in the team standings with 82 points. The girls scored 17 points.
Zarron Skubal won the triple jump with a distance of 39-foot-6, and Jack Coraor was fourth at 33-10. Austin Wright was second in the discus at 130-7, and Angel Palomo eighth at 112-4. Dillon Noletubby placed third in the long jump at 17-8.25, and seventh in the shot put 38-1.25. Coraor cleared 5-7 for third in the high jump.
Keith Page was second in the 110-meter hurdles in 18.9 seconds, and second in the 300 hurdles in 45.09 seconds. Wyatt Sperry was fifth in both hurdles in 20.83 seconds and 51.29. Austin Fields placed seventh in the 100 in 12.57 seconds. Daniel Goff was sixth in the 3200 in 13:02.06, and Coraor seventh in the 800 in 2:25.06.
The 4-by-400 relay team of Skubal, Page, Jorge Ramos and Wright took first place with a time of 3:46.56, and the 4-by-100 foursome of Colton Sperry, Yanikxan Aguilar, Yarin Quinteros and Palomo was sixth in 1:00.48.
Paytin Villarreal placed third in the 800 in 2:52.4. McKenna Jesse was fourth in the high jump at 4-9 Gracie Monat was sixth in the discus at 92-2. Clara Hermes was seventh in the triple jump at 29-1, and Aurbrie Vance eighth at 23-10.5.
