The Otis High School volleyball team is trying to battle its way into a postseason berth.
The Bulldogs ran their winning streak to six with this past Tuesday’s YWKC League win at Bethune, improving to 9-10 overall, 4-1 in league play.
However, they have a serious battle today, October 21, as they play at highly-ranked Haxtun. They close out the regular season later next week.
Otis picked up its fifth straight win last Friday at Hi-Plains, sweeping the Patriots, 25-20, 25-22, 25-22. Rowan Tribelhorn had 11 kills, Madelyn Willeke nine, Jayce Perry eight, Jaylin Weber six, and Alli Hornung four. Hornung recorded 30 setting assists, and Kayce Perry and Destiny Henderson two each. Otis served 98.6 percent. Weber was 15-15 with three aces, Hailey Stivers 14-14 with two aces, J. Perry 12-12 with two aces, Henderson 8-8, Hornung 7-8, K. Perry 2-2.
LONE STAR VOLLEYBALL
Lone Star’s volleyball team has lost four straight matches heading into the final stretch of the 2021 season.
The Longhorns sat at 7-12 overall, 1-4 in the YWKC League, when they headed to Deer Trail for a non-league match on Wednesday of this week. They host Prairie on Saturday, followed by Briggsdale coming to Lone Star on Tuesday.
Lone Star played at Arickaree/Woodlin last Thursday, losing 24-26, 24-26, 9-25. Lone Star statistics were not available.
The Longhorns played at Hi-Plains in Seibert this past Monday, again getting swept, 16-25, 22-25, 18-25. Statistics were not available.
ARICKAREE/WOODLIN VOLLEYBALL
The Arickaree/Woodlin volleyball team is trying to stay in the race for a postseason berth as it enters the final matches of the regular season.
The Indian Mustangs are 8-10 overall, 3-1 in YWKC League play, as they enter to Deer Trail today, October 21, for a non-league match. They host Prairie tomorrow, October 22, for another non-league match.
They pulled off a hard-fought league win at Lone Star last Thursday, October 14. They had to go extra points to win the first two sets, 26-24, 26-24, then cruised in the third, 25-9.
Joslyn King had 13 kills, Raeya Schrock eight, McKenna Jesse five, Julisa Quinteros three, Lilly Monat two, and Cora Schrock one. Monat and C. Schrock each had 12 setting assists. Monat was 16-17 serving with two aces, R. Schrock 13-14 with three aces, C. Schrock 12-12 with one ace, King 11-12 with three aces, McKenna Jesse 10-11, Janice Kalcevic 5-5 with two aces, and Quinteros 2-4.
