6 Man and 1A volleyball

Otis High School’s football team is making a case again as one of the best in the 6-man ranks.
The Bulldogs make the long trip to La Veta this week, sitting at 4-0 overall, 1-0 in league play, after an impressive 64-21 home win over Idalia, last Friday. They are No. 3 this week in MaxPreps Rankings, while Idalia, 3-1 and 0-1, is No. 5.
Otis plays a La Veta team that is 2-2 and ranked No. 15.
The Bulldogs eventually won in blowout fashion, last Friday at home against the Idalia Wolves, but it was not easy early on. They led just 22-14 after the first quarter. However they blew it open with 28 unanswered points in the second quarter, then tacked on 14 more in the third for a 64-14 lead.
Otis rolled up 390 total yards on offense, 251 rushing and 139 passing, while Idalia had 258 total yards.
Erick Thorn ran for 155 yards and four touchdowns on just seven carrie, and Tayte Smith ran for 86 yards and one touchdown on 13 attempts. Austin Hornung completed five of six passes for 100 yards and three touchdowns, while Smith completed one pass for 39 yards. Smith had three touchdown passes totaling 69 yards, while Thorn had one catch for 39 yards, Charlie Kendrick one for 21 yards, and Sawyer Packer one for 10 yards.
Kendrick was in on 11 total tackles, Smith 10, Jacob Perry eight, Mitchell Stivers four, Packer four, Thorn four, Blake Stivers three, Bohden Klinmann three, Gavin Price two, and Tristen Stivers and Cambric Klinzmann one each. Kendrick and C. Klinzmann each had an interception, while Packer recovered a fumble.

ARICKAREE FOOTBALL
The Arickaree Bison sit at 3-1 overall and ranked No. 7 in 6-man football in MaxPreps Rankings.
The Bison are at No. 6 Genoa-Hugo, 2-1 overall, on Saturday night after a 56-6 win at Briggsdale last Friday.
Arickaree had little trouble with the Falcons, 1-3, as the Bison led 19-0 after the first quarter. The lead was 27-6 at halftime, and then the Bison held a 29-0 advantage in the second half.
They actually were outgained by Briggsdale, which had 360 total yards compared to the Bison’s 263 total yards, 190 rushing and 73 passing.
Nic Hermes ran for 144 yards and two touchdowns on 17 carries, Dillon Noletubby 32 yards and two touchdowns on five carries, and Wyatt Sperry had a 23-yard touchdown run. Austin Wright completed four of six passes for 59 yards and two touchdowns. Hermes completed one pass for eight yards, and Noletubby two for six yards. Zarron Skubal caught two passes for 44 yards and a touchdown, Noletubby two for 15 yards and a TD, and Wright three for 14 yards.
Wright was in on 14 total tackles, Clay Axtell 11, Hermes nine, Skubal seven, Jorge Ramos seven, Noletubby six, Kade Homm four, Rylee Nichols four, Keith Page four, Sperry two, Luis Machado two, Yarin Quinteros two, and Angel Palomo one. Noletubby had an interception and fumble recovery, and Nichols and Ramos each recovered a fumble.

OTIS VOLLEYBALL
The Otis High School volleyball team keeps making inroads in Class 1A, and now gets a chance to make more of a statement Saturday.
The Bulldogs are 8-3 overall, 1-0 in the YWKC League, after a 3-1 home win over Idalia last Friday. They are No. 3 in the MaxPrep Poll, while Idalia now is No. 6. Otis is in the Akron Tournament on Saturday, in the same pool with Yuma and Stratton, which is No. 14 in 1A.
Otis hosted top-ranked Merino last Tuesday, losing 12-25, 23-25, 15-25. Statistics were not available.
The Bulldogs were home again Friday, opening league play with a four-set win over Idalia. Statistics were not available.

LONE STAR VOLLEYBALL
The Lone Star volleyball team entered this week sitting at 6-5 overall.
The Longhorns hosted Peetz this past Tuesday, then gets a week off before hosting Briggsdale on Tuesday, September 26.
Lone Star hosted a tough Fleming team last Thursday, losing 15-25, 19-25, 26-28. Amanda Kubitz had four kills, Jade Kuntz four, and Aleighcea Kuntz three. A. Kuntz had six assists, and Paityn Forry three. J. Kuntz was 13-13 serving with three aces, A. Kuntz 11-13 with three aces, Peytyn Kuntz 9-9 with two aces, Grace Cochran 9-0, and Amanda Kubitz 8-9.

ARICKAREE VOLLEYBALL
The Arickaree volleyball team hosted Prairie this past Tuesday after splitting two matches late last week.
The Bison were 7-8 overall heading into the non-league match. They do not play again until September 29 at home against Hi-Plains.
Arickaree won a non-league home match against Wiley last Thursday in four sets. Statistics were not available.
The Bison traveled to Briggsdale on Friday, losing the non-league match 15-25, 15-25, 15-25. Statistics were not available.
