The Otis High School football team will have some work to do leading up to the 6-man playoffs next month.
The Bulldogs suffered their first loss of the season, 48-16, last Friday at home to Stratton, which is now No. 1 in the CHSAA Seeding and Selection Index.
They face another stiff test Friday when they travel to southeastern Yuma County to take on the Idalia Wolves, who also are 6-1 and No. 4 in the Index. The Bulldogs, 6-1, are No. 6. The Wolves’ lone loss to date also is to Stratton, 58-15.
Stratton’ loss was to Cheyenne Wells 53-40 in the season opener. Cheyenne Wells is undefeated but No. 2 in the Index, followed by undefeated Sierra Grande at No. 3.
Otis was shutout in the first half of last Friday’s game after posting big numbers in the first six weeks. Stratton scored 24 points in the second quarter for a 32-0 lead at halftime.
The Bulldogs got on the board in the second half with a touchdown and 2-point kick in both the third and fourth quarters. Otis had 207 total yards, 132 passing and 75 rushing. Austin Hornung completed 9 of 20 passes for 103 yards and touchdowns to Charlie Kendrick and Tayte Smith. Kendrick completed three passes for 29 yards. Smith had five catches for 81 yards, Emiliano Varela two for 22, Kendrick three for 16 and Cambric Klinzmann one for 10. Smith ran for 44 yards and Kendrick 27.
Klinzmann was in on 21 total tackles, Kendrick 14, Smith nine, Hornung seven, Perry seven, Varela four, Malakye Reese three, and Gracen Bechtle one.
Stratton had 268 total yards on offense, 131 passing and 137 rushing.
Friday’s kickoff at Idalia is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Arickaree’s football team remains firmly in the playoff chase as it heads to Genoa-Hugo today, October 17, for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
The Bison are 4-3 after rolling past Hi-Plains 58-0 last Friday in Seibert. They are No. 10 in the CHSAA 6-man Selection and Seeding Index. Their losses have come against No. 6 Otis, No. 1 Stratton and No. 4 Idalia.
Genoa-Hugo is 2-5 and No. 21 in the Index after a 58-6 loss at Idalia last Thursday.
The Bison had little trouble last Friday at winless Hi-Plains. They led 20-0 after the first quarter, and went into the halftime break leading 46-0.
They ran for 227 yards, averaging 14.2 yards per rush. Jorge Ramos ran for three touchdowns and 63 yards on four carries, Austin Wright 78 yards and one score on three carries, Keith Page 37 yards and a TD on three carries, Zarron Skubal a 34-yard touchdown run, and Wyatt Sperry 12 yards, and Angel Palomo five yards.
Jaxson Cordell completed his only pass for a 64-yard touchdown to Palomo.
Skubal returned an interception for a touchdown, and Ramos returned a kickoff for a TD.
Ramos also led in tackles, being in on 11 total, while Skubal was in on eight, Wright six, Page six, Sperry four, Cordell four, Austin Fields three, Daniel Goff three, Luis Machado three, Colton Sperry two, and Dillon Noletubby, and Levi Kalcevic one each.
