Verna Mae Guy was born to William Rush Williams and Willie Mae Tharp, Brownsville, Texas. She left this life with her family by her side at her home May 18, 2020. She was raised on a farm and moved to Trinidad in 1945, where her father took care of a ranch. In 1946 the family moved to Sugar City. 1952 they then moved to Olney Springs, CO. She attended Olney Springs School for her younger years and graduated from Lamar Union in 1959.
She married Harold Duane Guy on May 29, 1959 in Wiley, Colorado. They met in high school. Harold worked for American Crystal Sugar Company but left after years to work for the Colorado State Highway in 1971. They had three children. Kevin Duane Guy, Douglas Jo-Neil Guy, and Melinda Sue Guy (Echler). They raised their family in Rocky Ford Colorado until 1971 then moveed to Leadville. The move to Yuma was their final home in 1976. When Harold`s job moved to Yuma, he first leaving the family in Leadville. Jo and Harold wrote letters to one another to make the separation a little easier. It wasn’t long before Jo and the kids moved to Yuma. She was blessed with three grandchildren Stefanie Anne Guy (Manning), Russell Duane Guy and Rebecca Mae Guy and 8 step-grand kids.
Jo loved reading. She spent most of her days reading anything. She could tell you almost anything historical. She enjoyed bike riding, walking with friends and neighbors, visits from her grand children and their grand puppy(s) and grand kitty(s). She had many jobs throughout her life. She worked as a house keeper at the hospital in Leadville, CO., a cook at Yuma High School, and taking care of the elderly around town.
Jo is survived by her sons Kevin his wife Kathy and children Kimberly her husband Jason Meier, children Trevor and Heidi. Toby McCreath’s children Chase, Cheyanne, Caden. Amy her husband Juan Mendoza children Elizabeth, Kinsley, Brayden. Rebecca Guy. Doug his wife Dawn living in Laughlin, Nevada, children Stefanie her husband Dusty Manning living in Harper Heights, Texas and Russell Guy in Greeley, CO. Daughter Melinda her husband Robin. Sister, Betty Sue Filbeck her husband Donald Filbeck. Sister in law Peggy Williams and Shirley Williams. And numerous nieces and nephews. She was proceeded in death by husband Harold Duane Guy. Parents William Rush and Willie Mae Williams. Siblings, Ollie Faye Manweiler, Everett Jefferson Williams, Birl Dean Williams. Brother in law Henry Manweiler, and Grandson, Toby McCreath.
Graveside services were held in Sugar City, CO, at the Lakeview cemetery, Tuesday May 26, 2020.
