On August 4, 2020, Dean Verlin Koenig passed away at the age of 77. He was born in Beatrice, NE on December 11, 1942, the sixth of seven children to Theodore and Mabel Koenig. His family moved to Yuma in 1955.
After graduation from Yuma High School in 1960, he attended the University of Colorado and graduated in 1965 with degrees in chemical engineering and mathematics. Following graduation, he was employed as an engineer with Shell Oil. In 1967, he returned to Yuma to pursue farming.
He met his wife Kathleen Stevenson while at Boulder and they married February 2, 1964. They divorced in 1983. To this union, Wendy, Andrea and Richard (Rick) were born.
Dean had a passion for farming and later, collecting antique tractors, pedal cars and farm toys. He served on the Yuma School Board and was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church.
Dean was preceded in death by his daughter Andrea, his parents Theodore and Mabel Koenig, brothers Gerald and Ronald Koenig and sisters Marilyn Norred and Janet de la Vega.
He is survived by daughter, Wendy Wyatt and husband Phil of Dana Point, CA, and their children; Michael and wife KC and son Jonathan, Christopher, David, Daniel and wife Laurel, his son Richard (Rick) Koenig and wife Nicole of Castle Pines, CO, his granddaughters, Makenna, Gabriella and Isabella Koenig, his brother Roger and wife Lucille Koenig, and his sister Vernelle Koenig, along with many nieces and nephews.
