The Yuma High School boys golf team is back to grinding through a busy schedule.
The Indians have three consecutive days of tournaments, Wednesday at Frontier Academy Invitational in Greeley, Thursday at the Estes Park Invitational, and Friday at the Holyoke Invitational. They then are at Wray on Tuesday, and Sterling on Wednesday.
Coach Benjamin Weathers did not take his varsity foursome to Cheyenne Wells last Friday, giving other players an opportunity to play.
The varsity at Cheyenne Wells consisted of Clay Robinson, Ethan Goeglein, Jake Hagemeir and John Smith. Robinson shot a 103, Goeglein 104, Hagemeier 11 and Smith 112. Their team score of 318 left them seventh in the seven-team field.
Braden Wedel of Stratton was top medalist with an 80, and Cheyenne Wells won the team title with a 275.
Five more Yuma players competed in the JV portion, finishing seventh with a 330 team score. Andre Baucke shot a 110, Lars Sims 110, Kyle Schuetz 110, Jayden Serl 111, and Fynn Sims 140.
Weathers said it was a tough course, and the conditions were really tough. He said it was about 100 degrees with no wind. Plus, there was a lot of smoke from the wildfires.
He said it took its toll on the players, but on the positive side some new players got some varsity experience.
