Yuma High School’s cross country teams will be taking their talents to Fort Morgan on Friday, after having a great run in their own meet last Friday.
Indian Hills Golf Course was overtaken by high school cross country teams and their fans for the YHS Twilight Cross Country Meet. It turned out to be a great event, highlighted by the Yuma boys claiming the team title.
The Indians had three runners finish in the top five, four in the 10 and five in the top 15, winning the boys title with 36 points. Wiggins was second with 48, Fort Morgan third with 51, Heritage Christian Academy fourth with 93, Rocky Mountain Lutheran fifth with 132, and Wray sixth with 141.
Angel Escobar finished third, covering the course in 18 minutes, 52.8 seconds. Javier Duran was fourth in 18:57.10, and Braden Smith fifth in 19:17.30. Blaze Brophy was ninth in 19:24.10, and Jesus Ross was 15th in 19:51.10. Ruben Vega also ran, finishing 35th in 22:48.60.
Yuma’s girls finished third in their team standings with 77 points. Wray took the girls team title with 48 points, Heritage Christian second with 57, Shining Mountain Waldorf fourth with 81, Fort Morgan fifth with 83, and Wiggins sixth with 156.
Ashley Ibanez led the way for the Indians, placing 11th in 23:48. Shelby Blach was 13th in 23:57.30, Hailey Eyring 15th in 24:11.30, Lea Richardson 16th in 24:20.90, and Meidi Reyes 30th in 26:09.60. Samantha Wells was 33rd in 26:53, and Caddis Robinson 45th in 30:16.30.
