Yuma School District-1 has implemented additional health protocols at Yuma Middle School.
The district received notification this past Tuesday of three additional positive COVID-19 cases at YMS. That brings the total active cases in the Yuma schools to six. Two positive cases at YMS and one at Yuma High School were confirmed last week. The individuals are in appropriate isolation following health department guidelines.
The district strongly encourages parents to keep their children at home if they have symptoms.
The Yuma-1 Facebook page included the following information:
“Due to the concentration of cases at YMS, we will be implementing the following additional health protocols: 1) YMS students should expect to clear a temperature check screening upon entering the building; 2) Students must be symptom-free for 48 hours before returning to school; 3) Additional cohorting strategies may be implemented according to grade level and/or building; 4) Prohibit any visitors to YMS (parents may call into the office to retrieve a student, no deliveries, etc.); 5) Additional cleaning protocols throughout the day; and 6) Students displaying any symptoms at school will be sent home immediately. Although masks are not mandated at this time, additional defensive measures include recommending wearing a mask when social distancing is not possible.
“If you, as a parent, do not feel comfortable sending your child to school because of the current cases, you may decide to keep your child home and these absences will be considered ‘School Excused.’ YMS students are still responsible for turning in all assignments during these absences. While school resources and assignments will be provided, classes will NOT BE VIRTUAL at this time. If you make the decision to keep your child home, please notify the school office as soon as possible.
