Yuma County Softball headed to Chase County, Nebraska, this past Tuesday, after earning a nice win last Thursday in Wray.
YCS improved to 2-7 with the 8-6 win over the Platte Valley Broncos. The team is in the Brush Tournament on Friday and Saturday. The girls play Wellington and Timnath on Friday. Saturday’s schedule will be determined by Friday’s outcomes.
It was a back-and-forth affair last Thursday against Platte Valley. YCS took a 2-0 lead in the first inning, but Platte Valley led 5-2 after the top of the fourth. YCS tied it in the home half of the fourth, but the Broncos regained a 6-5 lead in the top of the fifth. YCS plated three runs in the bottom of the sixth, then held Platte Valley scoreless in the seventh to get the win.
Makynna DeLand had two hits, including a double, with one RBI and one run scored, Jordan Glanz two hits with one RBI and one run, Larissa Salmans hit a two-run triple and scored a run, Addi Jones one hit and one run, Alysha Yanez one run and one RBI, Faith Ridnour one hit, Gemma Oestman one hit, Jazmine Sotelo one hit, two runs and one RBI, and Sharon Greek one hit and one RBI.
Salmans went the distance for the pitching win. She struck out six and walked seven, yielding seven hits.
