Yuma High School’s track and field athletes are heading toward the northern suburbs on Saturday.
Yuma will be competing in the Mountain Range Invitational in Westminster.
It follows on the heels of solid showings at the Fightin’ Red Invitational in Eaton, last Saturday, and in its own Yuma Bill Kalb Invitational this past Monday.
Conditions were perfect for Monday’s Bill Kalb. Wiggins swept the team titles.
On the boys side, Wiggins had 161 points, Yuma 127, Holyoke 66, Sedgwick County 55.5, and Haxtun 54 to round out the top five in the 17-school field.
In the girls division, Wiggins had 116, Idalia 85, Merino 81.5, Ellicott 73, and Yuma 70 to round out the top five.
Nash Richardson was second in the 110-meter hurdles in 17.13 seconds, and second int eh 300-meter hurdles in 43.74 seconds. Bridger Lynch was fourth in the 110 in 18.08 seconds, and fourth in the 300 in 44.93 seconds, while Edwin Munoz was fifth in the 110 in 18.66 seconds.
Daman Hernandez was second in the 400-meter dash in 51.2 seconds. Zeke Martinez placed eighth in the 200-meter dash in 25.31 seconds.
In the field events, Alex Lozano won the long jump with a distance of 20-foot-2, and Jonathan Carrillo was sixth at 18-5.
Richardson cleared 12-3 for second in the pole vault, Jack Blecha 11-9 for third, and Lynch 11-3 for seventh. Kevin Hermosillo whipped the discus 128-foot-6 for second, and put the shot 44-4.75 for fourth. Edwin Munoz cleared 5-8 for third in the high jump, and Kevin Orona 5-4 for eighth. Carrillo triple jumped 36-5.25 for eighth.
The 4-by-400 relay team of Javier Duran, Jiovani Perez, Hernandez and Orona took first with a time of 3:43.67. The Sprint Medley team of Omar Lozano, Will Noble, Brodie Castillo and Hugo Olivas took second in 4:31.43. The 4-by-800 team of Perez, Orona, Hernandez and Duran placed second in 8:52.06. The foursome of Lozano, Noe Quezada, Hermosillo and Duran placed third in the 4-by-100 in 45.73 seconds. The 4-by-200 team of Lozano, Blecha, Carrillo and Hermosillo placed fourth in 1:36.47.
For the girls, the 4-by-400 relay team of Jayleen Loya, Ashley Ibanez, Carolina Ross and Lea Richardson took first place again with a time of 4:17.65.
The 4-by-100 team of Jade Lungwitz, Richardson, Caddis Robinson and Loya also took first in 51.87 seconds. The 4-by-200 team of Ross, Loya, Robinson and Richardson placed second in 1:48.88. The 800 Sprint Medley team of Lyndsen Mekelburg, Lungwitz, Robinson and Ibanez also placed second in 2:00.64.
In the open races, Mekelburg was fifth in the 100-meter hurdles in 18.86 seconds, and Braylynn Armstrong was eighth in 19.39. Kenya Arvizo placed fifth in the 1600 in 6:48.87, and seventh in the 3200 in 16:00.84, while Myka McDonald was eighth in the 1600 in 7:00.36. Emma Rayl was eighth in the 800 in 2:58.78.
Mekelburg triple jumped 32-7.5 for second, Lungwitz 30-11.5 for fourth, and Richardson 30-8.75 for sixth. Glanz cleared 4-6 for seventh in the high jump. Chloe Smith cleared 7-9 for sixth in the pole vault.
Fightin’ Red Invite
The tracksters enjoyed another nice day last Saturday in Eaton.
Yuma’s boys placed third in the 21-school field with 61.5 points, behind only Eaton with 136, and Wiggins with 83.5. The girls finished ninth in their division with 41.5 points. Eaton won the team title with 99.
The boys racked up a good amount of points in the field events. Kevin Hermosillo placed second in the discus with a distance of 133-foot-11, and put the shot 43-11.5 for another second place.
Nash Richardson cleared 12-7 for second in the pole vault, while Bridger Lynch was seventh at 11-1, and Jack Blecha eighth at 11-1. Richardson was fifth in the triple jump at 39-6.5, and Jonathan Carrillo eighth at 38-11.75.
Alex Lozano placed fifth in the long jump with a leap of 19-10. Cristian Duarte was sixth and Edwin Munoz seventh in the high jump, both clearing 5-9.
The boys had two placing relays as the foursome of Perez, Orona, Hernandez and Duran finished eighth in the 4-by-800 with a time of 8 minutes, 58.42 seconds, and the team of Blecha, Carrillo, Lozano and Quezada placed eighth in the 4-by-200 in 1:36.39.
More points came in the open races.
Richardson placed third in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 16.84 seconds, and Lynch was fifth in 17.62.
Daman Hernandez ran the 200-meter dash in 23.7 seconds for fifth, and Javier Duran was seventh in 23.82. Duran also was sixth nt he 400 in 52.65 seconds.
The girls placed in one field event, with Chloe Smith clearing 7-7 to place fifth in the pole vault.
The open races were good for the girls.
Lea Richardson placed second in the 200 with a time of 27.03 seconds, and Jayleen Loya was fifth in 27.56.
Lyndsey Mekelburg was second in the 100-meter hurdles in 17.65 seconds. Loya also placed fifth in the 100 in 13.22 seconds, and fifth in the 400 in 1:01.85. Ashley Ibanez took fifth in the 800 in 2:38.94.
The only placing relay was the foursome of Jade Lungwitz, Carolina Ross, Caddis Robbinson and Lea Richardson taking second in the 800 sprint medley with a time of 1:54.51.
