Otis High School’s football team hits the road for the first time in the 2023 season when it visits Hi-Plains in Seibert, Friday night.
The Bulldogs will take a 2-0 record with them south after rolling past Briggsdale 60-13, last Friday in Otis.
The game was over almost before it began as Otis scored 30 points in the first quarter, and was up 60-7 by halftime.
Austin Hornung completed four of five passes for 87 yards, Tayte Smith one pass for 17 yards, and Gavin Price two completions for 12 yards. Cambric Klinzmann had a 53-yard touchdown catch, Sawyer Packer two catches for 29 yards and a TD, Mitchell Stivers two for 12 yards, and Smith one for five yards. Erick Thorn ran for 130 yards and two touchdowns on six carries, Stivers three for 65 yards and a score, Smith four for 51 yards and two touchdowns, and Blake Stivers three rushes for 28 yards.
Charlie Kendrick was in on five tackles on defense, Hornung four, Bohden Klinzmann four, Thorn three, Price three, Smith two, Aiden Knudsen two, and Emiliano Varela, Packer, Tristen Stivers and C. Klinzmann one each.

ARICKAREE FOOTBALL
The Arickaree football team faces a major challenge Friday when it travels to Idalia for its league opener.
Both teams are 2-0, Arickaree rolling past North Park 40-0 last Friday at home, while Idalia picked up a big 56-24 home win over Fleming.
The Bison defense pitched a rare 6-man football shutout against North Park. The great defensive effort was led by Zarron Skubal recording an incredible 25 tackles, including being in on six sacks. Austin Wright and Jorge Ramos were in on 10 tackles each, Nic Hermes nine, Clay Axtell nine, Rylee Nichols six, Dillon Noletubby five, Cody Homm four, Keith Page two, and Brayden Hill one.
On offense, the Bison scored three touchdowns in the first half for a 21-0 lead, then tacked on three more scores in the second half. Noletubby ran for 67 yards and two touchdowns, Wright 47 yards and one score, Wyatt Sperry eight yards and Hermes five. Hermes completed three passes for 28 yards and two touchdowns, and Wright one pass for 26 yards and a touchdown. Hermes had one catch for 26 yards and a score, Noletubby one for 23 yards and a touchdown, Hill one for three yards and a score, and Skubal two for six yards.

ARICKAREE VOLLEY
Arickaree’s volleyball team opens YWKC League play Friday at Idalia.
The Bison dropped a pair of matches at home to Class 2A schools, last Saturday.
First up was a 25-13, 25-22 loss to Wray, followed by a 25-21, 17-25, 10-15 loss to Burlington. Arickaree statistics were not available. The Bison now are 6-5.

LONE STAR
Lone Star’s volleyball team is at Deer Trail on Friday after opening league play this past Tuesday against Otis.
The Longhorns improved to 5-3 with a 25-21, 25-12, 25-19 win at Front Range Baptist, last Friday in Fort Collins. Amanda Kubitz had five kills, Aleighceia Kuntz four, Grace Cochran two and Jade Kuntz two. A. Kuntz led in assists with four. Peytyn Kuntz was 16-18 serving with three aces, A. Kuntz 12-13 with four aces, Paityn Forry 11-13 with one ace, Cochran 9-10 with one ace, Kubitz 6-7 with two aces, and J. Kuntz 6-8 with one ace.

OTIS
Otis High School’s volleyball team goes to Seibert on Friday for a league game with Hi-Plains and hosts a tough Merino squad on Tuesday.
The Bulldogs were 5-2 heading into this past Tuesday’s YWKC League opener at neighboring Lone Star.
They rolled past Briggsdale at home last Friday, 25-22, 25-23, 25-17, and also beat Wray earlier last week 25-10, 25-17, 25-20. Otis statistics were not available.
