Yuma County Softball gets a break this week just as the team was finding its stride.
YCS’s next scheduled action is a doubleheader at Burlington on September 23.
The team has this week off after improving to 7-9 by winning six of its last seven games.
YCS went 3-2 at the Brush Tournament last weekend. The Yuma County girls ran their winning streak to five with two victories last Friday.
It began with a 16-1 romp over Timnath. YCS scored nine runs in the first and seven in the second to make quick work of the Cubs. The team had 14 hits, including one triple. Addison Jones had three hits, three runs batted in and scored two runs, Danyelle Davis three hits, including a triple, three RBI and one run, Erin Allen two hits, four RBI and two runs, Ellie Oestman two hits, one Rbi and two runs, E. Lenz one hit and one run, Clara Oestman one run, Faith Ridnour one hit, one RBI and two runs, Gemma Oestman two runs, Jordan Glanz one hit and one RBI, Lauren Gdanitz two runs, and Sharon Greek one hit, one RBI and one run. Davis got the pitching win, striking out three and walking two while allowing one earned run on five hits.
YCS then scored a 19-6 win over Florence. Statistics were not available.
The local girls then ran into a tough Brush team, losing 11-1. Brush’s biggest inning was five runs in the third, but YCS could manage just one run on eight hits. G. Oestman had two hits and drove in Greek with the team’s only run. Greek had two hits, including a double. E. Oestman hit a double, and Jones, Ridnourm and Glanz each had one hit. Davis took the pitching loss, yielding 13 hits.
YCS ran into Sterling on Saturday, losing 11-3. Yuma County trailed 3-2 when Sterling plated eight runs in the third. The local girls did have 10 hits. Greek had three and one run, Glanz two hits, G. Oestman two hits and one run, Ridnour one hit,one RBI and one run, E. Oestman one hit and one RBI, and Allen one RBI. Davis took the pitching loss but walked only one and struck out two.
YCS’s tournament appearance ended later Saturday with a 12-3 win over Platte Valley. Yuma County led 3-2 when they broke it open with nine runs in the third. Davis had two hits with three RBI and one run, Gabby Aguilar two hits, including a double, and one RBI, G. Oestman two hits, one RBI and one run, Gdanitz two runs, P. White one run, Greek twho hits, including a double, and one RBI, Allen two runs, and C. Oestman one run. Davis got the pitching win, striking out two with no walks, and yielding just two earned runs on three hits.
