Yuma High School’s boys basketball team had players named to the 2023-24 All-LPAA team in its final year in the league.
The Class 3A champions tied Merino for the most selections.
Yuma All-LPAA
Brody Sheffield — The sophomore led the Outlaws in scoring with an average of 18.6 points per game, and also averaged 4.3 rebounds, 3.3 assists and nearly 2 steals per game. He has two more years to try to lead the Outlaws to more state titles.
Jonathan Thomson — The junior averaged a double-double this past season with 12.5 points and 10.1 rebounds per game. He also averaged 2.4 assists and 2.3 steals per game. At 6-foot-3, he will be returning next season as Yuma’s only “big” once again.
Cristian Duarte — The senior played a key role in the Outlaws winning the 3A title. He was the team’s second-leading scorer at 13.3 points per game, and also averaged 2 steals and 1.6 assists per game.

Yuma girls
Yuma High School’s girls basketball team placed third in 3A this past season, but had a rough stretch during Lower Platte play, and it was reflected in only one player being selected to the 2-23-24 All-LPAA team.
Class 2A state champion Merino had the most selections with three, while Akron, Sedgwick County, Wiggins and Wray each had two.
Yuma All-LPAA
Caddis Robinson — The senior missed a large chunk of the conference season with an injury, but returned in time to help the Outlaws in the postseason push in 3A. She averaged 7.5 points and 5 rebounds per game.
Alina Moran, honorable mention — The junior averaged 7.3 points and 5.2 rebounds per game, and will return next season with a very promising crew of players.

ALL STATE
The basketball all-state selections were released earlier this week on CHSAANow.com.
Yuma High School sophomore Brody Sheffield was named 3A Player of the Year, and Dave Sheffield the Coach of the Year.
Besides Brody Sheffield being named the First Team, Cristian Duarte made the Second Team, and Jonathan Thomson earned honorable mention.
On the girls side YHS senior Caddis Robinson was named to the Class 3A First Team after the Outlaws finished 17-9 and third in the state tournament.
Of the local teams in 1A, Janiya Smith of Arickaree earned honorable mention. Idalia’s Jaylyn Kechter was named to the Second Team. For the boys Otis’ Charlie Kendrick and Sawyer Packer, along with Lone Star’s Grant Kuntz and Idalia’s Tarek Glanz earned honorable mention.
