Girls golf ends at regional

Yuma High School’s girls golf team saw its season come to an end Monday in the Class 3A Regional at Sky Ranch Golf Course in Sterling.

“We didn’t have the day we hoped but very proud of all the girls competing until the end,” coach Luke Goeglein said.

A couple of tough spots prevented senior Jailyn Mekelburg from qualifying for state again, finishing with a 107. The last qualifying score was a 102.

Two teams and 13 individuals qualified out of the 15-team regional.

“We are in the toughest region in the whole state, going up against teams like (Resurrection Christian), Berthoud, Timnath and others,” Goeglein said.

Freshman Kena Serl played in the regional, and continued to show promise with a 114. Aspen Chadwick and Izzie Young improved their regional scores significantly over last year, finishing with a 115 and 119, respectively.

Regional concluded the high school golfing careers of seniors Mekelburg and Young.
