Yuma Recreation Complex design approved

The Yuma Recreation Complex Board is very excited to announce that they have approved the design for the construction of a new, state-of the art-recreation facility for Yuma and the surrounding area.

The Board reviewed the feasibility study completed by Perkins & Will Design Studio in Denver, and the board has been reviewing the results of the study and have determined what would be included. The recreation complex will feature an indoor swimming pool and a basketball court, and multiple use rooms.

“The board has been diligent and has invested time to ensure that the complex is a reflection of what the community wants and can sustain,” says Kristy Rutledge, President of the Board. The cost of the project is projected to be $30 million.

“We continue to raise funds to help with the marketing for the project,” Deb Higgins, Vice President of the Board expressed. “We want to ensure that we are communicating to the public the next steps of the project,” Higgins said. “In addition, we will be approaching funders to help as we begin to raise dollars for the construction of the project.”

The need for a recreational facility in Yuma has been a priority for many years. The Yuma Recreation Complex was realized in the last couple of years, coming to fruition from many local community leaders who stepped up to help begin the process. The Yuma Recreation Complex is a 501c 3 nonprofit organization.

“This is a first, in many steps, that we will be taken to make the project a reality,” Rutledge said. “With the help of the community, we will be successful.”
