The family of Britani Meek has set up Britani’s Bench at Yuma City Park.
The memorial bench was finished this past weekend, sitting by the playground and swimming pool.
Rolinda Meek, Britani’s mother, said the granite structure was done by Baucke Monuments, which also installed it at the park.
The back of the bench is inscribed with “Love a Little Deeper, Hug a Little Tighter, Say I Love You Because Tomorrow Is Never Promised.”
“People seem to like the saying, and I think it’s appropriate,” Rolinda said. “If someone gives more hugs to a loved one, then there’s at least something good that has come out of this.”
Meek, 25, went missing on October 25 of last year. The YPD released it had received a report that she was going to the Denver area to meet an unknown person. Her description and the description of the car she was driving were widely circulated.
However, the vehicle was located in rural Yuma County on November 16. A body was located on November 22. An autopsy was performed on November 27, during which it was positively identified as Meek.
Yuma Police Chief Jerry Thompson said earlier this year that law enforcement does have a suspect. The YPD, 13th Judicial District and Colorado Bureau of Investigation continue to work the case. There has not been an arrest yet.
Rolinda said no information can be shared with the family as the case remains open.
