YC Softball staying home this week

Yuma County Softball finally is at its homes this week.

The team made its Yuma County debut this past Tuesday when it played Chase County (Imperial, NE) in Yuma. The girls will play in Wray on Saturday when Valley visits (10 a.m. first pitch).

YCS went 1-2-1 in the Brush Tournament last weekend, entering this past Tuesday’s game with a 3-5-1 record. They improved to 4-5-1 with a 10-run win against Chase County.

The team opened tournament play last Friday in Brush with a 12-2 win over Holyoke. YCS plated four runs in both the second and fifth innings, tacking on four more in the other three innings. The Dragons were held to one run the third and fifth innings.

Ellie Oestman got the pitching win, striking out five, walking two and allowing just one hit over five innings.

Gabby Aguilar had three hits, including a triple, and three RBI and one run, E. Oestman two hits, one RBI and four runs, Grace Jones one hit, two RBI and one run, Gemma Oestman one RBI and one run, Lauren Gdanitz one run, Clara Oestman one RBI and two runs, Emree Lenz one run, Priscylla White one RBI, and Gese Sanchez one run.

YCS played Timnath later in the day, losing 15-2. The YCS runs came in the first and third innings. Timnath pulled away in the second with nine runs for a 10-1 lead.

Aguilar hit a triple and scored one run, G. Oestman had one RBI, C. Oestman one run, Autumn Maggard two hits, and White one hit and one RBI. E. Oestman and White both pitched.

The team returned to Brush on Saturday, ending up in a 6-6 tie with Florence.

Florence led 2-0, then YCS tied at 3-3, and Florence took a 6-4 lead into the bottom of the sixth, when YCS was able to score two runs for the tie.

Maggard had three hits, including a double, with one RBI and two runs, C. Oestman one hit and one RBI, E. Oestman one hit, one RBI and one run, G. Oestman one run, Gdanitz one RBI and one run, and Lenz one run.

The squad finished tournament play with a 12-1 loss to Bayard, Nebraska. No statistics or inning-by-inning scores were available.
