YCS trying to reverse trend

Yuma County Softball will be attempting to snap a four-game losing streak when it travels to Limon today, September 26, for a league doubleheader.

The losing streak has dropped YCS to 5-9-1 on the season. The traditionally-strong Limon program has struggled even more, entering this week with a 2-12 record. However, the Yuma County girls dropped both ends of the double dip, 18-8 and 18-12, falling to 5-11-1 on the season.

YCS played at McCook, Nebraska, last Thursday, suffering a 19-0 defeat. The Bison scored 17 runs in the second inning. The game was called after the top of the third. YCS did not have any hits, while McCook had 13, including four doubles and a triple.

The YCS girls then hosted Bayard, Nebraska, for a double dip on Saturday,

It was 9-4 in the opener when Bayard scored eight in the sixth for a 17-4 win. Bayard had six hits compared to YCS’s five, but drew nine base on balls, and YCS committed 13 errors.

Grace Jones had one hit and one RBI for YCS, Ellie Oestman one hit and one RBI, Gemma Oestman one RBI and one run, Lauren Gdanitz one hit and one RBI, Clara Oestman one hit, Emree Lenz one run, Priscylla White one hit and one run, and Autumn Maggard one run.

YCS lost the nightcap 17-1. Jones had one hit and one run, E. Oestman one hit, C. Oestman two hits and one RBI, and Gese Sanchez one hit.
