The Otis High School volleyball team picked up a huge win at home last Friday.

The Bulldogs knocked off nemesis Stratton in four sets. They entered this week 14-4 and No. 5 in the Class 1A CHSAA Seeding and Selection Index, while Stratton dropped to No. 4.

Otis has one 11 of its last 12. They hosted Weldon Valley this past Tuesday, then have another big match Friday at Idalia, which entered this week 15-2 and No. 2 in the Index.

It took four sets for the Bulldogs to beat No. 22 Prairie earlier last week, 25-20, 22-25, 25-18, 25-15. Madelyn Willeke had 15 kills, Aideyn Tribelhorn 12, and Layce Perry four. Crysten Goble had 26 setting assists. Otis served 97 percent at the line. Tribelhorn was 19-20 with five aces, Goble 19-20 with three aces, M. Willeke 16-16 with three aces, Perry 15-15, Lydia Willeke 13-13, and Madison Reynolds 11-12 with two aces.

Then came last Friday’s home win over Stratton. It appeared The Eagles still had the Bulldogs’ number, winning the first set 25-16, but Otis dominated after that, 25-17, 25-20 and 25-17. M. Willke had 19 kills, Tribelhorn 15, Perry seven, Kensley Packer four, and Goble three. Goble had 39 setting assists. Otis served 93.3 percent. L. Willeke was 19-19 with two aces, Tribelhorn 19-20 with three aces, Perry 17-18 with three ace, M. Willeke 12-12, Goble 10-12 with one ace, and Reynolds 7-9.

LONE STAR VOLLEYBALL

Lone Star’s volleyball team is No. 24 in the Class 1A CHSAA Seeding and Selection Index entering its final matches of the season.

The Longhorns were 8-9 heading into this past Tuesday’s home match against Arickaree. They are at Briggsdale today, October 17.

They hosted St. Francis, Kansas, last Thursday, losing in four sets, 21-25, 21-25, 25-14, 20-25. Jade Kuntz had nine kills, Audrey Wade eight, Paityn Forry five, Grace Cochran five, Jaylin Weber five, Kaylee Coin four, and Peytyn Kuntz two. Weber had 14 setting assists, and Cochran 11. Lone Star served 92 percent. Weber was 17-18 with five aces, Cochran 17-18 with three aces, Aimee Trejo 14-14 with one ace, Forry 11-12 with one ace, J. Kuntz 10-13, Kaylee Coin 9-10 with one ace, and P. Kuntz 5-5 with two aces.

The Longhorns went 2-1 in a tournament last Saturday. It began with a 14-25, 25-17, 8-15 loss to Genoa-Hugo/Karval. J. Kuntz, Forry and Wade each had four kills, Weber three, and P. Kuntz two. Weber had nine assists, and Cochran four. Lone Star served 91.5 percent. Weber was 10-11 with two aces, Forry 10-10 with one ace, Trejo 809, J. Kuntz 6-7, Cochran 5-5, and P. Kuntz 4-5.

Next up was a 2-0 win over Kiowa. Statistics were not available.

The Longhorns ended the day with a 25-19, 23-25, 15-7 win over Flagler. Statistics were not available.

ARICKAREE VOLLEYBALL

Arickaree’s volleyball team is having a tough time down the stretch of the 2024 season.

The Bison were 8-12 and No. 29 in the Class 1A CHSAA Seeding and Selection Index, heading into this past Tuesday’s match at Lone Star. They are at Genoa-Hugo/Karval today, October 17.

They lost in three last Friday at Hi-Plains in Seibert, 20-25, 13-25, 19-25. Ja’Niya Smith and Raeya Schrock each had seven kills, and McKenna Jess and Janice Kalcevic six each. Gracie Monat had 13 setting assists, and Lizbeth Ramos eight. Arickaree served 91 percent. Kalcevic was 11-11 with one ace, Clara Hermes 10-10 with three aces, Monat 8-8 with one ace, Jesse 6-6 with one ace, Schrock 6-7, Ramos 3-3 with one ace, and Smith 4-8 with one ace.
