Yuma High School’s boys wrestling team will be heading to Nebraska again this weekend.
First, the Outlaws have a dual at Burlington on Friday, then travel north Saturday to the Chase County Invitational in Imperial, Nebraska.
They were in Nebraska last Saturday for the Garden County Invitational, after hosting Sedgwick County/Fleming in a dual last Thursday in The Pit.
“Overall both were very good for us, the guys keep improving and that’s all we want,” coach Presley Papachek said. “Sedgwick is always tough and we knew they would be, but we got after it and battled. Burlington is another tough team on Friday and we need to go in there and look to get better and good things will happens, then we go to Chase County which is a good tournament.”
The Outlaws tied for fifth in the 28-team field with Wauneta-Palisade, each team scoring 93 points. Gordon-Rushville won the team title with 176, and Sedgwick County/Fleming was second with 150.
Daden Beauprez led the way by placing second at 165 pounds. He won his first two matches by fall, then won a 10-1 major decision in the semifinals. He lost a competitive 9-5 decision in the championship match.
David Gaytan placed third at 126. He lost his first match, but then won five straight, all by fall including three in under 1 minute to take third.
Augi Montes de Oca went 2-2 while placing fourth at 120. Bryan Montes won three straight while on his way to placing fourth at 190. Cooper Blach went 2-2 at 106, both his wins coming by fall. Ethan Nadow went 3-2 but did not place at 138. Esteban Gonzalez won his first two matches to reach the 113 semifinals, but then lost his next two and did not place. James Brandner also won his first two at 175 but ended up not placing. Tyson Hansen had a win at 190, Dallas Brunk one win at 144, and Thomas Deal wrestled at 132.
The Outlaws hosted Sedgwick County/Fleming for a dual last Thursday night, losing 48-27. Blach won at 106, Beauprez at 165, Brandner at 175, and Montes at 215. Tyson Hansen got a forfeit win at 190.
