Yuma District Hospital and Clinics has a new provider on the staff.
Haley Perry is seeing patients as a Family Nurse Practitioner. She is mostly covering the walk-in patients at the Yuma Clinic for now. She said she might spend some time at the Akron Clinic as well.
Haley Patterson grew up in Otis, graduating from Otis High School in 2014. She earned her bachelor’s of science in nursing at the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley. She worked for two years at North Colorado Medical Center in Greeley in the Emergency Room and labor and delivery, then worked at the Sterling Medical Center in labor and delivery since 2020.
At the same time she was working toward her FNP licensing by taking online classes through Chamberlain University in Chicago. She even had to go there a couple of times for labs.
On top of that, she and her husband Andrew Perry have had two children in recent years, now age 2 and 1. Andrew is a P.E. teacher in the Otis schools and also farms.
Therefore, they have had a lot on their plate, obviously.
“It was pretty overwhelming at times, but we had good support from our families and friends,” Haley said.
She recently passed her board exam to be a FNP and began working for YDHC. As an advanced practice registered nurse she is able to provide patient care, including diagnosing and treating illnesses. The rules in Colorado dictate she work under the supervision of a physician for three years, then can work independently.
“It’s different as a provider than being a nurse,” Perry said. “There’s a lot more responsibility. There’s more stress but it’s good. All my co-workers have been great and very approachable if I have questions.”
