The Yuma High School baseball team is getting in an extra week of practice before playing its delayed season opener.
The Indians were supposed to play a single varsity game last Friday at Akron. However, the midweek snowstorm resulted in it being rescheduled to Monday, March 28, with a varsity game at 2 p.m., followed by a JV contest.
The weather turned out to be fairly decent Friday afternoon, and the Yuma field was in good shape, so the Indians took advantage by having an intra-squad scrimmage. They were forced indoors again earlier this week, but have decent weather the rest of the week to get in more outdoor practices before opening the season.
The rescheduled opener makes for an busy time early next week. Following Monday, the Indians will travel to Sterling on Tuesday with a single varsity game at 4 p.m.
Yuma’s home opener is Saturday, April 2, when the Indians host the Caliche Buffaloes for a Lower Platte Activities Association doubleheader.
