Betty Ann Smith, longtime Eastern Plains resident, passed away with family at her side on Sunday September 18, 2022.
Betty was born on January 8, 1934 in Kirk, Colorado to Elmer and Elizabeth (Shively) Boone. She spent most of her childhood in Kirk where she attended school graduating from Liberty High school.
Betty brought her daughter, Pamela, into the world April 27, 1953 in St. Francis, KS. She was very dedicated to her daughter while furthering her education. For many summers, the two of them would travel to Greeley so that Betty could attend University of Northern Colorado to become a teacher. Despite the time she spent in her studies, she always made time as a mother. She would often take Pamela’s design ideas and get to work sewing amazing clothes for her.
Betty married the love of her life John C. Smith April 14, 1957. Not only was Betty a devoted mother and loving wife, but she was a dedicated school teacher at Stratton Elementary School where she eventually retired. Betty enjoyed playing golf, ceramics and of course enjoyed the time she spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a member of the Kirk Baptist Church for over 60 years.
Betty did so much to contribute to the lives of her family and her community and will be remembered for her legacy and greatly missed.
Betty is preceded in death by her parents Elmer and Elizabeth (Shively) Boone and her husband John “Jack” Smith.
She is survived by her daughter, Pamela (Jim) Liebl of Red Feather Lakes, CO; her granddaughters, Jami (Rick) McCoy of Lakewood, CO and Meagan (Mike) Harper of Loveland, CO; great-grandchildren, Morgan McCoy Hall (Tanner), Griffin McCoy, Avery McCoy, Caleb Harper and Grace Harper; and her sisters, Peggy Howell of Texas and Carol Boone of Nebraska.
Graveside Services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, September 23, 2022 at the Kirk Cemetery in Kirk, Colorado. Celebration of Life Services will be held 2 p.m. Friday, September 23, 2022 at the Stratton Activity Building, 918 Colorado Ave. Stratton, CO.
