Bonnie Lee Lyons 1932-2024

Bonnie Lee Lyon (Weeks) went to her heavenly home on February 21, 2024 at the Garden Terrace Alzheimer’s Facility in Aurora, Colorado. A graveside service will be held this summer.

Bonnie was born on February 17, 1932 to Loyal and Doris Weeks in Rosston, Oklahoma. She was the eldest of four children. She spent most of her childhood on the family farm in Yuma, Colorado. She attended a one-room country school and was active in 4H. She enjoyed riding horses and walking to school. She worked beside her parents and siblings milking cows, slopping hogs, and tending to chickens. She told the story of being scared of chickens after being attacked by one. Bonnie graduated from Yuma Union High School.

On June 18, 1950 Bonnie married Kenneth Lyon. Bonnie remembered seeing Kenneth for the first time on a Saturday night while cruising main street in Yuma. They decided to get some snacks so she and her friends were pulling into the grocery store parking lot. Kenneth and his friends were getting out of their vehicle. Bonnie told her friends that she was going to marry that man. Bonnie was quiet and reserved but she knew he was the one for her.

Kenneth served his country from 1952-1954. After his service they spent some time traveling and working in different areas, including Montana. The couple settled in Colorado where they raised two sons and one daughter. One of Bonnie’s biggest accomplishments was retiring from Alco after 29 years. Bonnie enjoyed sewing, playing cards, her flower garden, going to church, Sunday afternoon softball games and yes; Bonnie was a Bronco & Nugget fan! Bonnie always enjoyed her time with Jenny Brown. Jenny held a special place in her heart!

Those left to cherish her memory include son, Rod Lyon (Lorinda) and children Angela Jacobs and Joshua Lyon; daughter, Peggy (Scott) Howell and children Wes Howell, Jamie Howell, Heather Ohri-Chamberlain, and Hannah Howell; son, Todd Lyon & friend Lori Yokomizo; along with a handful of great grandchildren.

Bonnie was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-seven years, Kenneth Lyon; parents, Loyal and Doris Weeks; sister, Betty Kirchenschlager; brothers, Keith Weeks and Lynn Weeks.
