Cheryl Lynn Mekelburg was born in Wray, Colorado on August 13, 1948 to Don and Betty Jo Seedorf. Colorado. She passed away on March 20, 2025 peacefully at her home in Yuma, Colorado.
Cheryl married Gaylord Mekelburg on September 22, 1968. To this union four children were born, Amy, Jason, Sally and Adam.
In 1968, Cheryl’s early working years she was the Yuma High School secretary. She was a domestic engineer for many years while raising her children. In the late 1980’s she worked for Garst Seed Company. In the 1990’s she went back to college for her Occupational Therapy Assistant Certificate and worked at Yuma Life Care Center until she retired in 2013.
Cheryl was a seamstress while raising the kids, attempting to get them interested in sewing. She loved reading but her true passion was found in 1996 when she discovered art. She loved watercolors and acrylics mediums and spent as much free time as she could get learning new techniques in her artwork.
Cheryl opened her door to many of her kid’s friends if they needed it and ultimately fostered kids. She was loving and full of life and willing to bend over backwards to help others whenever she was asked. She loved fast cars, especially her convertibles and her dogs. She always said we are just a dog family.
Cheryl was preceded in death by her parents, Don and Betty Jo Seedorf.
Cheryl will be greatly missed by her husband, Gaylord Mekelburg, daughter, Amy Mekelburg and husband, Diego Martinez; son, Jason Mekelburg and wife, Shelley; Sally Castillo and husband, Joe and son, Adam Mekekburg and wife, Heather; also her grandchildren, Austin, Brittney, Mia, Matthew, Olivia and Alexa. Brother, Rick Seedorf and wife, Ruth and many nieces, nephews as well as so many wonderful and loving close friends and family.
Graveside service was held Friday, March 28, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at the Yuma Cemetery followed by a Celebration of Life at Red Willow in Yuma, Colorado. Baucke Funeral Home directed the service.
