City attacking the pot holes

The City of Yuma is in the process of patching pot holes all over town.

One might have noticed big chunks of street cut out and dug down several inches, even resulting in temporary street closures at some locations.

City crews are cutting out around the pot holes. Street Supervisor Mark Triplett said the street is cut out to the end of the stress cracks. Milan Paving and Crushing from Sterling is doing the asphalt work.

The $300,000 paving project will cover all of town. The hope is to have it done within the next 30 days.

It began on Beatty Ave, followed by the stretch of W. Railroad Ave. from N. Birch to N. Main. The crews now are working east of S. Main between Second Ave. and Highway 34.

The city still have plans to completely repave a few blocks in town this autumn.

Fourth Ave. from S. Main one block west to Ash St. and one block east to Albany St., and Third Ave. one block west of S. Main to Ash St., will be torn out and repaved. If there is enough time, the intersection at N. Birch and W. Hoag Ave. will be repaved along with curb and gutter.

City Manager Scott Moore said it is not clear yet when the contractor will begin the work, but expects it get started soon.
