Cross country has break before regional

Yuma High School’s cross country teams have some time off before heading to regional.

The Outlaws concluded the regular season last Saturday at the Wiggins Invitational, which also served as the Lower Platte League Meet.

Their next action is the Class 2A regional held in Lyons on Thursday, October 24.

Yuma’s boys team finished second among Lower Platte teams with 33 points. Wiggins won the league title with 23 points, and Wray was third. Merino also had some runners.

Alan Flores finished second among Lower Platte runners with a time of 18 minutes, 52.9 seconds. Hugo Olivas was fifth in 19:28.6, Liam McClaran seventh in 19:55.6, and Josiah Perez eighth in 20:01.4 to round out the team score. Angel Ibarra was 11th in 21:14.9, Adan Cortes 12th in 21:48.9, Esteban Gonzalez 13th in in 21:58.5, Anderson Weathers 14th in 22:18.8, Maddox King 16th in 22:24.4, Anderson Habana 23rd in 24:02.3, Jose Olivares 25th in 26:29.8, and Jesus Garcia 26th in 26:30.4.

The boys finished seventh overall out of 11 schools with team scores with 136 points. Green Mountain won the team title. In the overall race, Flores was 25th, Olivas 34th, McClaran 43rd, and Perez 44th to round out the team score.

Yuma’s girls did not have enough runners for a team score. Among Lower Platte runners, Achtonn Neill-Davison was fifth in 24:13.4, and Myka McDonald eighth in 26:28.4. In the overall race, Neill-Davison was 37th and McDonald 50th. Wray’s girls won the Lower Platte title, and Green Mountain won the overall team title.
