Mia Dischner was the only Yuma High School wrestlers competing in Colorado’s first sanctioned girls tournament, last week, and came home a placer.
The junior wrestled last Thursday in the CHSAA Girls State Championship in the Southwest Motors Events Complex on the Colorado State Fairgrounds in Pueblo.
She went 2-2 while placing fifth at 185 pounds.
Dischner opened tournament action Thursday afternoon with a pin fall at the 3:30 mark against Cree Moo of Far Northeast.
That put her in the semifinals, where she went up against Taylor Knox of Calhan. It was a tightly-contested match but Dischner found herself on the wrong end of a 3-0 decision. Knox proceeded to win the 185 pound championship.
Dischner found herself in the consolation semifinals, where she was pinned in 3:51 by Blythe Cayko of Eaglecrest. Cayko went on to win the third-place match.
Meanwhile, Dischner won the fifth-place match. She met up with Moo again, this time pinning her in 1:53.
Her 11 points also were good to finish in a tie for 26th in the final team standings.
Dischner finished the season with a 19-7 record.
