Doris Marie (McCall) Smith was born on April 19, 1940, in Yuma, Colorado to Arthur Virgil McCall and Alice Capitola (Chandler) McCall. She passed away after a lengthy illness on November 9, 2024, surrounded by her family.
Doris married the love of her life, Eugene Alfred Smith on June 23, 1957, at the Assembly of God Church in Yuma Colorado. In 1962, Doris and Eugene moved into their current home on North Main Street. To their 67-year union four children were born, Marty Eugene, Kimberly Roxanne, Darren Lee, and Kelly Andrew.
Doris attended Abarr schools and Yuma High School. She was unable to finish high school but being the determined individual she was, she received her GED from Northeastern Junior College in 1983.
Doris touched many children’s lives in the Yuma area as she was a daycare provider in her home for hundreds of kids for over 40+ years. She kept in touch with many of those former daycare kids and was always thrilled when she was able to attend their graduations or weddings, or when they stopped by to visit.
Doris was the historian for both the McCall and Chandler families and could remember most any date that you asked her. She loved the family reunions held every year and was especially proud to give updates on the new additions to the family.
Reading and playing games were her favorite past times. She would never say no to a game of Dominos, Racetrack Rummy, or the Marble Game. But watch out, even though she loved you, she was out to win.
Doris is preceded in death by both her parents, Brother’s Jesse, Earl, Leonard, and Phillip McCall. Sisters, Jennie Jean and Marilyn. Grandson Jonathan David Barnett.
She is survived by Husband Eugene Smith, Children Marty and Jackie Smith, Kimberly and David Barnett, Darren and Anna Smith, Kelly and Shanna Smith. Doris also leaves behind eight grandchildren Brent (Nicole) Stanton, Blake Smith, John Barnett, Jessica (Daniel) Chavez, Alex Smith, Morgan Smith, Grace Smith, Levi Smith and two great Grandchildren Daniel (DJ) Chavez and Xavier Chavez. Doris is also survived by siblings, Gary (Virginia) McCall, Dale McCall, Evelyn Henry, and Sisters-in-law Kay McCall, Loretta McCall, Vivian McCall. And countless nieces and nephews.
Funeral Service to be held Saturday November 16th, 2024, at the First Church of the Nazarene in Yuma, CO, at 11:00 am. Interment to follow at the Yuma Cemetery.
