Jared Rozell Shook, age 31, passed away on August 28th, 2024 in Kit Carson County, Colorado. Born on November 7th, 1992 in Sterling, Colorado, Jared was the beloved son of Jeremy and April Shook.
Jared grew up surrounded by his loving family, including his four sisters: Julia, Jillian, Janessa, and Josie. Jared was a 2012 graduate of Akron High School where he enjoyed playing football and being a part of the FFA. With a deep appreciation of farming, machinery, and John Deere, Jared pursued his passions by attending Garden City Community College in Kansas, where he trained to become a John Deere Technician. Jared worked at 21st Century Equipment in Akron while attending school and continued until the Akron location was closed. Jared returned to the family farm to work alongside his father, Jeremy. Jared took great pride in continuing the legacy of a multi-generational farm. Besides partnering with his father, Jared cultivated the family farm alongside his Uncle Jason, and cousins Roy, Ben, Jonathan, and Wesley.
In addition to his work on the farm, Jared found a second family with the Akron Volunteer Fire Department, where he found fulfillment in serving his community. The firemen became the brothers he had always desired, and together they shared a close bond. Jared’s mischievous nature was renowned among his fellow firemen, who came to love and accept him for who he was.
Jared was known for his kind heart, mischievous smile, and generous silent actions. Whether working on the farm, spending time with family, or pulling pranks on his firemen brothers, Jared lived life with a generosity and orneriness that made him a beloved friend and family member.
Our son got lost in the cornfields of life. Thank you to all who answered our call for help in finding our son and bringing him home. Your kindness and compassion is greatly appreciated.
Jared will be deeply missed by his parents, Jeremy and April; his sisters Janessa and Josie; his sister Julia Hart, husband Mark and children Eli, Maya, and Adelyne; and his sister Jillian Lebsock, husband Davis, and daughter, Leona. He will also be lovingly remembered by his grandmothers, Mary Ann Shook and Mary Jane Rozell, his aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family, and the many friends and people who meant so much to him. Jared was preceded in death by his grandfather’s Lynn Shook and Dale Rozell as well as his Aunt Cheree Rozell.
A memorial service will be held on September 4th, 2024 at 11:00 am at the Akron Foursquare Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Akron Volunteer Fire Department where Jared passionately served his community.
Jared will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him, remembered always for his generous heart, skilled hands, and playful spirit.
