Kirk Robertson, 74, passed away on August 17, 2023, at his Battle Ground, WA, home. Diagnosed in December 2022 with small cell lung cancer which had metastasized to his brain, Kirk battled bravely until treatments were suspended and hospice was initiated in July 2023.
Born on July 24, 1949, in Yuma, Colorado, Kirk was the eldest child of Dexter Lewis and Jennie Lee Robertson. A 1967 graduate of Otis High School, he earned an associate degree from Northeastern Junior College (Sterling) and a B.S. in Business Administration from the University of Northern Colorado (Greeley) in 1974. His military service in the United States Army Infantry from 1971 to 1972, including a tour in Vietnam, impacted him deeply. He became a lifetime member of the Yuma VFW Post in 1987.
Kirk’s career spanned from ranching and farming, to traveling the Pacific Northwest from 1978 to 1987 representing International Harvester Company, to Norris, Beggs & Simpson as a Commercial Real Estate Broker in Vancouver, WA, until his 2013 retirement. A heart attack in 2006 shifted his focus back to farming in Lucin, UT, until 2022.
In 1978 Kirk met Laurette Janeil “Jan” Gilmore. He moved to Vancouver in 1980, she joined him the following year, and they married in 1982. They raised two beautiful daughters in Vancouver, and moved to Battle Ground, WA, in 2021.
Kirk is survived by his wife, daughters, granddaughter, and a brother, as well as eight nephews, one niece, and wonderful in-laws. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, and a beloved sister.
Kirk’s cowboy spirit endured, rooted in a love for horses, cattle, and ranching. Kirk’s legacy lives on through his courage, his achievements, and the love he shared with his family and many friends.
A memorial service will be held on September 16, 2023, at 2:00 pm at Baucke Funeral Home, Yuma, CO, followed by interment at Yuma Cemetery. Memorial donations to the American Cancer Society are appreciated.
