We are sad to announce the passing of Leora Jane Deschamps on July 29, at the age of 70. She passed peacefully in her home in Wray, Colorado, after her battle with cancer.
Leora was born in Glenwood Springs, Colorado to Sam and Betty Carter. She attended Eagle Valley High School till she married Wayne Deschamps in June of 1969 and moved to Wray, Colorado. Leora raised four children and always welcomed many of her kids’ friends to stay whenever they needed to. Leora worked at the Wray Community District Hospital in the food services department till she retired after 20 years of service. She attended college at Morgan Community College where she got her certification in dietary management. Being with family and friends brought Leora the most joy. She loved watching her grandchildren grow into the amazing people they are now. One of her greatest joys was becoming a Great Grandma. Leora got to do some traveling with her mom and loved it. She had hoped to be able to do more traveling after her retirement, but she was diagnosed with cancer soon after leaving her job.
Leora was proceeded in death by her father Samuel Carter, her sisters Janice Carter and Diane Justice, and her husband Wayne Deschamps.
Leora is survived by her mother Betty Carter, son Tim Deschamps, wife Jennifer, and her granddaughter Kelli; son Todd Deschamps, significant other Christy and her granddaughter Celena, husband Lane and her great-grandson Daxon, her granddaughter Morgan, her grandson Blake, her granddaughter Serena, and her grandson Logan; son Tony Deschamps, wife Robin and her grandsons Logan and Bodi; daughter Traci Johnson and husband Steve; and her fur baby Sassy. Her sister Sandy Houle, husband Mike and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and cousins. Leora was very loved and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Viewing was held on Wednesday, August 3, 2022 from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. at the Schmidt-Jones Funeral Home in Wray, Colorado. Funeral services were held at the Calvary Lutheran Church in Wray, Colorado on Thursday, August 4, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Dennis Fitzpatrick officiating.
Interment was in the Grandview Cemetery in Wray, Colorado. Memorials may be made to the Hospice of the Plains. Schmidt-Jones Funeral Home was entrusted with the arrangements.
