The Yuma County Cattlemen’s Association will host their annual steer auction and Rocky Mountain Oyster Dinner, held in conjunction with the 2018-19 YCCA Feedlot Performance and Carcass Contest Saturday evening, March 16, at Wray Elk’s Lodge.

The steers were delivered to Schramm Feedlot in November. Thirty days later, the official weigh-in was completed. A midway weight was taken March 4. The results of this midway weight will be available the night of the auction. The results may also be available during the week following March 4, and possibly on the Schramm Feedlot website before the auction. Steers may be viewed during feedlot hours.
Even if you don’t have a steer entered in the contest, it still possible to become a participant at the auction by testing your ability to pick the eventual winners and placers. All the money raised from the auction will be returned to the participants through prize money awarded, based on the final placing of steers in the contest, after YCCA takes out the cost of the dinner and retains 10 percent of the auction proceeds to fund their activities. The primary activities funded include awarding educational scholarships to Yuma County graduates, beef promotion, and supporting youth at the County Fair and sponsoring the Yuma County Fair Queen.
All current members of YCCA, and a guest, will be admitted to the dinner free of charge. Memberships are available at the door for $10. For more information about the auction or the contest, contact one of the YCCA Contest Chairs: Ron Armstrong 630-1951, Heath Roundtree 630-3798, or BJ Mekelburg at 630-1112.

For an entertaining evening, and the opportunity to support our youth and the beef industry, join YCCA at Wray Elk’s Lodge March 16. A social hour and opportunity to view pictures of the 78 steers will begin at 5:30 p.m. The RMO Dinner will be served at 6:30, and the auction is scheduled to begin at 7:30.
