Lois Serl 1938-2024

Lois Irene (Crossland) Serl 86, passed away peacefully at Harmony Home with 2 of her daughters by her side. She fought a long, hard fight with Alzheimers and finally gave up the battle on November 21, 2024.

Lois was born on June 29, 1938 to Arlie and Marie (Tombaugh) Crossland, she was the second child of 7 children. Her family homesteaded 24 miles North of Eckley, Colorado. Lois was always a hard working individual even at an early age. She helped her family with the daily farm chores, helped her mom with the cooking and taking care of her younger siblings. Lois attended Ford Buffalo Grass Elementary from 1st to 8th grade. We remember the stories she told us about how her and her siblings had to walk miles to school everyday and it was uphill both directions. She attended Eckley High School and graduated in 1957. During her school years she was an active member in 4-H. In 1956 she met Bruce Allen Serl on a blind date (mom thought he was a no-good greaser with a motorcycle). They quickly fell in love and were married on June 15th, 1957 and lived Northwest of Eckley, Colorado. She stayed home while Bruce farmed and they had their first daughter Donna Faye on September 1, 1958. Bruce had gone to work for another farmer and they moved North of Eckley. There they had their second daughter Bonnie Louise on July 17, 1960. In 1963 they rented some farmland from her father, they farmed this until 1969 and then they moved to Yuma Colorado. Here they had their third daughter Connie Marie on February 27, 1970. Shortly after, Lois went to work at the Yuma Nursing Home. In 1973 Bruce and Lois decided to move to the mountains of Kremmling, Colorado. Here she went to work as a dietician for Kremmling Memorial Hospital. In 1975 their fourth daughter Annie Irene was born on May 16th. Lois worked at the hospital until 1988 then she went to work at the Lone Moose for two years. She loved being in the mountains and spending time camping, boating, and fishing with her family. In 1990 Bruce put in a transfer to the State Highway Department and they moved back to Northeastern Colorado and made their home in Akron. At this time Lois went to work at the Homestead Inn and over the next several years she also worked for the Norka and Bird Seed factory. After Bruce’s passing she decided it was time to retire and enjoy her grandchildren. She was always up to going on adventures, walks, bike rides, sport games or music concerts. There was nothing that she didn’t like to do or was willing to try. Her music, dancing, whistling, humming and witty humor made her the mother, grandmother and woman that we all came to love!

Preceded in death by her husband Bruce, parents Arlie and Alice, brothers Paul, Wesley and Raymond, sister Mary and grandson George.

Survived by her daughters, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Donna Serl and sons, Henry (Amy) Cordova and their children, Bruce and Cirenda. Josh (Jordan) Serl.
