Lucinda Lea Canfield (Lucas), 61, was born to Leondis Lee Lucas and Mary Lynn Lucas (Neumann) on June 14, 1961 in Grand Island, Nebraska. She lost a grueling battle with Pancreatic Cancer on February 1st, 2023 at Yuma District Hospital in Yuma, Colorado.
Lucinda grew up in central Nebraska with homes in Alda, Central City, and Grand Island. She loved to spend time with, as well as, torment her younger brothers Ralph Lee and Richard Lucas. We have even heard stories of her taking her baby brother, Ralph, for rides in her doll stroller. Later in life, she would have a younger sister, Michelle, who would become a very good friend to her. As a child and into her teen years, Lucinda loved to roller skate and go swimming with her many cherished friends. She loved riding motorcycles, going to concerts, and had a love for life and good times. She had a special bond with her twin cousins, Rosalie and Rogelyn Regan, that even revealed her wild side. This bond continued into adulthood, even being miles apart. One thing is said for Lucinda, her friendships literally lasted a lifetime.
At a young age, Lucinda became pregnant with her first son, Jeremy. Because Lucinda was young, her parents adopted him and raised him in a loving home with her younger sister Michelle. After meeting Kenneth Arthur Canfield, she fell in love, and it was time for their family to begin. They were married on December 17th, 1977 and remained married until Ken passed away in January of 2022. In their marriage, they had three children: Kenny, Shawn, and Amber. Everyone knew how much Lucinda loved her children because of the way she spoke of them and how she cared for them. In 1986, Ken, Lucinda, and family moved to Brush, Colorado. The family learned quickly that the mountains, lakes, and wildlife of Colorado offered some of the best summer vacation spots. Later on, they would move to Otis, Colorado and that would be their permanent home.
Through her adult life, Lucinda had many jobs, but was never without work. When Lucinda was pregnant with Amber, she worked as a flagger for a road construction crew and told stories of the terrible sunburn she got while standing in the heat. She worked at Sonic Drive Thru and at that time they would bring orders out on roller skates. Lucinda was a pro at roller skating, so this job was very fun for her. She worked several years at the Tomahawk Truck Stop in Brush, Colorado where she gained many long-lasting friendships and met some famous people as well! Her final place of employment was Daylight Donuts of Yuma, Colorado. She worked there for 14 years and will be remembered for great customer service skills and dedication to her job.
Lucinda was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Arthur Canfield (2022); son, Kenneth “Kenny” Canfield (2005); father, Lenodis Lee Lucas (2017); mother, Mary Lynn Lucas (Neumann) (2019); mother-in-law, Louise Canfield (2005); sister-in-law, Janie Lucas (2014).
