Mel was born on September 8, 1937, in Sterling, Colorado to Frederick and Leona (Dross) Brunner, and his life reflected a strong commitment to work and family responsibilities.

Melvin is remembered for his masonry talents, having dedicated 40 years to his career as a brick layer, where he left a legacy of beautiful fireplaces, fence work, and homes. His friends and family recall him as a person of integrity, generosity, and devotion to his family, particularly his beloved wife Betty.

Melvin served in the United States Army in Korea, then returned home and worked in the oilfield for several years before starting his masonry career. He married Betty Lou Schulz, a nurse from North Dakota, on April 29, 1967. He was a member of the American Legion and a lifetime member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

As a father, Melvin was a source of unconditional love. His children, Michele (Steve) Masters, Jeffrey (Teresa) Brunner, and James (Carol) Brunner, will always treasure the memories of his humor and the numerous occasions he dedicated to supporting them in their pursuits. He was also a proud and loving grandfather to 8 grandchildren, who brought immense joy and pride into his life: Alexandra (Derek) Karg, Kathleen Masters, Leah Brunner, Ellie Brunner, Abigail Brunner, Andrew Brunner, and Emily Brunner.

He was preceded in death by his beloved grandchild Charles Brunner, his mother Leona Brunner, brothers Frederick and James Brunner, sisters Betty Gaddis and Berniece Jackson.
