It is the unofficial start to the summer season as Memorial Day is upon us.
All area schools have concluded the 2021-22 year over the past week or so, and everyone is gearing up for a holiday weekend.
The Yuma VFW and American Legion will host the annual Memorial Day Services this weekend, as well as the Yuma Museum hosting a cemetery tour.
The first Memorial Day Service is Sunday at Pleasant Valley. It will begin at 9:30 a.m., and will include Reverend Brunner. Yuma VFW’s Adam Beauprez will be the speaker, and the color guard will render honors.
There will be two more services held Monday, Memorial Day. The first will be at the Eckley Cemetery at 9 a.m., followed by one at the Yuma Cemetery at 10.
Pastor Chris Mulder of the First Southern Baptist Church will speak at both, as will Beauprez. Carol White, accompanied by Dave Hoch, will sing “Taps” at both, and the color guard will render honors. The Yuma Girl Scouts likely will be the one laying a wreath at the Monday service.

Cemetery tour
The Yuma Museum will hold its Cemetery Tour following the Yuma service. This year’s tour will feature veterans who returned to Yuma after their service and operated businesses — Earl Fritts, Adolf Goeglein, Florence Newport, Dick Brownlee and Howard McCalmont. Breakfast burritos will be available, along with coffee and orange juice, for $6. There also will be T-shirts, hoodies and books.
The tour is sponsored by Baucke Monuments and Shop All.
