Mildred Marie Korf passed from her earthly home and entered her heavenly kingdom on December 26, 2021.
On November 21, 1928, a cold winter’s day, Marie was born to Miles Norman Clark and Mary Carrie Eberline Clark as the last of seven children. Lora Felderman, a close family friend, neighbor, and local midwife, helped deliver Marie at her family farm. Marie often told the story of her birth. She jokingly attributed all of her shortcomings to the fact that after she was born, she was placed in the oven, their makeshift incubator, to keep her warm.
Marie attended Pleasant Hill School. She walked the two and a half miles to and from school everyday. If the weather was bad, her parents happily drove her to school. Marie completed the 8th grade but after attending high school for only three days, quit to take care of her ailing mother. The family moved to Yuma to be close to the doctor as her mother’s health declined.
As a child, Marie lived only a couple of miles away from her future husband, Alfred. After he returned from serving as a Marine in World War II, they married on May 1, 1947 in St. Francis, Kansas. They had three children: Peggy, 1948, Gary, 1950, and David, 1955.
Throughout Marie’s life, her kind and nurturing heart touched the lives of those around her. She raised her three children, helped care for sister in law, Doris Korf, her father, Miles, and Alfred’s father, Bill. She also supported her son, David, throughout his lifelong battle with diabetes. Marie was the touchstone of her family, and throughout all of these hardships, she kept her humor and faith. She will be greatly missed, but, in heaven, she will joyously be reunited with those who passed before her.
Marie will be remembered as a loving mother and as a selfless farm wife. She tirelessly worked to keep up with the kids’ activities and manage the home, raise chickens, grow a garden and milk the cows. She was also a wonderful and caring Grandmother and Great Grandmother to her five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
The Korf Family was able to celebrate Christmas with Marie on December 5th, 2021. Gathering at the High Plains Manor, the family spent a great day with Marie who was lively and talkative. The family will always remember and treasure that final Christmas.
Marie is survived by her daughter Peggy (Dave) McCall; daughter-in-law Linda Korf; granddaughters Carrie (Kevin) Farner; Anne (John) Ptacnik; Karissa (Kevin Ferrero) Korf; Mackenzie Korf; and grandson Mark McCall. Great grandchildren Desi and Halle Farner; Ameila, Zach and Josie Ptacnik; Kaiden Ferrero and Twilla McCall.
Marie is preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Alfred; her parents Miles and Mary Clark; her inlaws William and Bertha Korf; her sons Gary and David Korf; her brothers and their spouses Ted and Lila Clark; Randall and Barbara Clark; Norman and Shirley Clark; Dale and Alice Clark; her sisters and their spouses Vilta and Eddie Unkel; Ruth and Walt Bernhardt; her brothers in law and spouses Fredrick and Doris Korf; Carl and Darlene Korf; Elva and Freddie Hillman and Edwin Korf and numerous nieces and nephews.
