Presbyterian fundraiser
First Presbyterian Church is holding a drive-thru chili dinner fundraiser to finish paying for the newly installed stained glass windows.
Pre-order a bowl of chili and cinnamon roll by October 7 and pick up on Sunday, October 18 from 5-6 p.m. in the alley between Main and Ash St. off of Fourth Avenue.
Each pre-packaged dinner is $10 per person ($7 for kids under 7 and seniors) or $15 the day of. Call or text Deb at 630-1719 or Deanna at 630-2466 and tell them how many you’ll pick up between 5 and 6 p.m. on Sunday, October 18. For more information, call the church office, 848-5583.
Fundraisers for Yuma Museum
The Yuma Museum is planning on several fundraisers in October.
The museum and Yuma Volunteer Fire Department are helping with the 5K to Yuma, and are seeking volunteers to help. Call Monica King at 630-1660 if wanting to help.
The museum is planning a “Night at the Museum” dinner and presentation from Dr. Colorado on the strangest Colorado history, on October 30. Dr. Colorado is a well-known professor of history, and is the author of more than 50 books, articles and columns.
During the upcoming holiday season, the museum wold like to have a community Christmas village display at The Orphanage. Anyone who would like to share a display please contact King at 630-1660.
All of these events will benefit the Yuma Museum in the board’s journey to restore the building up to code for public use.
The board currently is seeking grant monies for now and in the future. Matching funds are needed to apply.
Yuma County coat drive
Giving Hands of Yuma County, in coordination with Yuma County Courthouse, will be hosting their annual coat drive, collecting coats, hats, scarves, gloves and overalls beginning October 28through November 6.
Clean items of all sizes may be dropped off at the Yuma County Courthouse in Wray, Monday thru Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and the Orphanage in Yuma, Tuesday-Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m.
There is no charge for anyone in need of winter gear! Winter wear will be available at the WRAC in Wray on Saturday, November 7. from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and in Yuma at Yuma County Fairgrounds on Monday, November 16, from 9 a.m. to 12 noon in conjunction with Food Bank of the Rockies. A variety of sizes will be available. Everyone is welcome

Fair Board meeting Oct. 19
The annual open Yuma County Fair Board meeting will be held on Monday October 19, 2020 at 7:30 pm at the Eckley Community building. Everyone is welcome to attend for ideas for the upcoming 2021 fair and discussion on the past year’s fair. We appreciate your support for our fair.

Free dental day is October 16
Yuma Family Dental and Wray Family Dental’s annual Free Dental Day is set for Friday, October 16.
Like last year, the Free Dental Day will be at both locations, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Patients will be seen on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Patients will be able to receive a cleaning, one filling or one extraction.
Masks are required to enter the dental offices.
Everyone is welcome! However, we do suggest getting here early to check in. After you sign in we will have you wait in your car until we are ready for you. Please bring a cell phone because we will call you when we are ready to see you.
Our offices truly enjoy being able to help people in need of dental care that may not otherwise be able to get these services. It is an honor to give back to the community that has been so great at supporting us!
Shop Yuma First event after 5K to Yuma
Downtown businesses Hoch Real Estate, Cellular Connections, Wildlee and Delish by Pebbles are sponsoring a Shop Yuma First event after the 5K to Yuma on October 17.
Beginning at 11 a.m., the first 100 people to stop by the corner of Second Ave. and Main St. will receive a lunch bag of hot dog, chips and water, courtesy of the sponsors. It will be COVID friendly as those passing out the lunch bags will wear masks and gloves, there will be social distancing, and hand sanitizer will be on-site.
Sign up for door prizes, and people are encouraged to shop at all local businesses that will be open.
