A major 6-man football showdown will take place Friday afternoon in Otis.
The undefeated Otis Bulldogs, 4-0, will be hosting the undefeated La Veta Redhawks, 4-0, for a rare 3 p.m. kickoff.
Otis enters the non-league battle No. 6 in the Rating Percentage Index, and ranked fourth in the Top 10 (CHSAANow.com polls). La Veta is No. 7 in the RPI, but is not ranked in the Top 10.
Otis improved to 2-0 in League 2 games with last Thursday’s 46-26 win at Idalia. The Bulldogs took an 8-0 lead in the first quarter, then built a 30-6 lead by halftime. Idalia rallied a bit in the third, bu the Bulldogs were able to hold them off for their fourth straight win.
Tayte Smith ran for 198 yards and four touchdowns on 17 carries. Charlie Kendrick had 74 yards and a TD on seven carries, and Mitchell Stivers 10 yards on two carriers. Carter Wells completed four passes, all of them to Jack Willeke, for 43 yards.
Defensively, Smith and Taylor Ringlein each had an interception, and Kendrick recovered a fumble. Kendrick was in on 16 total tackles, Smith 12, Bohden Klinzmann 11, Ringlein nine, Peyton Wells nine, Stivers three, Sawyer Packer three, Willeke two, Austin Hornung one, Emiliano Varela one, Blake Stivers one, and Eric Bintliff one.
Arickaree at Genoa-Hugo
The undefeated Arickaree Bison return to 6-man League 2 action when they travel to Genoa-Hugo, Saturday afternoon, in a Top 10 showdown.
Arickaree is 4-0, 1-0 in league play, after last Friday’s 59-20 home win over Briggsdale. The Bison are ranked this week No. 3 in the Top 10 (CHSAANow.com poll), and No. 3 in the Rating Percentage Index.
The Genoa-Hugo Pirates, 3-1, are ranked No. 5 in the Top 10, and No. 5 in the RPI, after losing 76-34 last Saturday at top-ranked Stratton.
Arickaree led 7-0 after the first quarter. The lead was 29-6 by halftime. It was 35-20 when the Bison put it away with a 24-0 fourth quarter.
Logan Wright ran for 265 yards and six touchdowns on 27 carries, while Nic Hermes had 15 yards on two carries and Jake King six yards on three carries. Wright completed three of six passes for 47 yards and one touchdown, while Hermes completed one pass for 10 yards and a touchdown. King had a 10-yard TD catch and Bryce Shaffer a five-yard TD catch. Dillon Noletubby had one catch for 32 yards, and Zarron Skubal one for 10 yards.
Skubal was in on 15 total tackles, Austin Wright 14, King 13, Hermes 11, Shaffer 10, Clay Axtell five, Jacob Jefferson three, Noletubby three, Keith Page two, and Raul Machado two. King had an interception and fumble recovery, Skubal two fumble recoveries and A. Wright one.
