Otis, Arickaree in 6-man quarterfinals

Third-seed Otis is in the 6-man football quarterfinals.

The Bulldogs’ opponent was determined Monday when sixth-seed Sierra Grande beat 11th-seed Eads 50-42. Otis will host Sierra Grande on Saturday at 1 p.m.

Otis’s first-round game with 14th-seed Cheraw was delayed from Saturday afternoon to Sunday, and moved to Prairie thanks to last week’s snow storm that dumped multiple inches throughout the region. In fact, Prairie hosted a doubleheader Sunday as Arickaree also played Fleming there on Sunday.

Otis had little trouble against Cheraw, cruising to a 62-6 win on a beautiful Sunday afternoon.

The Bulldogs again wasted little time in taking control. They led 26-0 by the end of the first quarter, and 56-0 at halftime. It was 62-0 when the Wolverines finally scored in the fourth quarter.

They needed just 288 total yards to produce the blowout win, rushing for 277 and adding 11 through the air.

Tayshaun Thomas ran for 92 yards and two touchdowns on six carries, Tayte Smith 88 yards and three touchdowns on six carries, Mitchell Stivers 71 yards and a TD on five carries, Tristen Stivers nine yards, Raegan Torres seven, Charlie Kendrick five and Cambric Klinzmann five. Hornung completed three of five passes for 11 yards and two touchdowns, all to Kendrick.

Otis had six sacks on defense and recovered one fumble. Blake Stivers was in on five total tackles, Kendrick three, Hornung three, Smith three, Malakye Reese two, Thomas two, T. Stivers two, Klinzmann two, Grady Bechtle one, Gracen Bechtle one, and Aiden Knudsen one.

Arickaree heads to top seed

Arickaree’s football team is moving on to the 6-man football quarterfinals after a delayed home win over Fleming last weekend.

The eighth-seeded Bison will play top-seed Cheyenne Wells, who beat Primero on Monday. The quarterfinal will be played Cheyenne Wells on Saturday at 1 p.m.

Arickaree’s first-round game against ninth-seed Fleming was delayed until Sunday, and was moved to Prairie thanks to last week’s snow storm that dumped multiple inches throughout the region.

The Bison escaped with a wild 81-66 win, but it came with plenty of challenges.

Fleming jumped out to an 18-6 lead in the first quarter, and led 46-20 at halftime.

However, the Bison turned it around in the second half with 61 points. They got within 54-50 by the end of the third quarter, then continued their run in the final frame with a 31-12 advantage to end up winning by 15 after trailing by 26.

Arickaree rolled up 451 total yards, 299 through the air and 152 rushing. Austin Wright completed 16 of 27 passes for 280 yards and five touchdowns. Jorge Ramos completed one for 16 yards, and Zarron Skubal one for three yards. Dillon Noletubby had 11 catches for 156 yards and three touchdowns. Skubal had two catches for 45 yards and a score, Ramos two for 63 yards and a TD, and Wyatt Sperry three for 35 yards.

Wright accounted for most of the rushing yards, finishing with 145 and two touchdowns in 21 carries. Ramos added seven yards on the grounds.

Though Arickaree did not have much defense in the first half, the Bison still finished with five sacks and caused three turnovers, an interception by Daniel Goff and fumble recoveries by Skubal and Wright. Wright was in on 24 total tackles, Ramos 20, Skubal 17, Noletubby 13, Goff 12, Keith Page eight, and Luis Machado two.
