Otis High School’s baseball team made it to the Class 1A District 4 semifinals, this week.
The Bulldogs are 9-7 after bowing out of the district tournament. They opened tourney play Tuesday with a 15-2 win over Fleming. However, they lost Friday to Haxtun, 13-1. Merino, which beat Caliche in the other semifinal, led Haxtun 5-0 early in the district final, Friday afternoon.
Otis split a doubleheader at Caliche on April 26.
The Bulldogs won the opener 15-13. They led 11-5 when Caliche scored eight in the bottom of the fourth, but Otis rallied with three runs in the top of the fifth, and added an insurance run in sixth.
Carter Wells had a homer and a triple among his three hits, with four RBI and three runs. Peyton Wells had a double among his four hits, with two runs and one RBI, Erick Thorn three hits, four RBI and two runs, Maddox Hisam one hit, two RBI and one run, Daniel Reece one run, Kaleb Jones one run, JJ Ward one hit, and one run, Paxton Davis one run, Tayte Smith one hit and two runs, and Garrett Patterson one run.
Ward, Smith and C. Wells all saw time on the hill.
Otis lost the second game 9-3 after Caliche scored five runs in the fifth. P. Wells had a triple and one run, Thorn a triple and one run, C. Wells a triple among his two hits, one RBI and one run, Smith a double, and Ward two hits and two RBI. Ward, Davis and Thorn pitched.
The Bulldogs closed out the regular season last Saturday with a pair of road wins.
They first knocked off Eads, 5-3, scoring all of their runs in the fourth inning. Hisam had a double among this two hits, one RBI and one run, P. Wells two hits, Ward a double, and one run, Smith a double, one run and one RBI, Thorn one hit, one RBI and one run, Davis one hit, one RBI and one run, and C. Wells one RBI. Ward, Smith and Thorn pitched.
Otis then scored 12 runs in the first inning of a 20-14 win over Simla. P. Wells had three hits, three runs and three RBI, Smith two doubles, five RBI and three runs, C. Wells three hits, including a triple, four RBI and three runs, Ward three hits, four RBI and three runs, Thorn a double, one RBI and two runs, Hisam two hits, three RBI and one run, Reece one RBI, Davis four runs, and Patterson one run. Ward, Smith and Thorn pitched.
